Yup; Severson was +2 that game.

It's also a game in which with the game tied, Mueller mysteriously took Severson's spot with Moore for the final 2.5 minutes of the game.
Maybe cause he led the team in 5v5 minutes and needed a break? I believe he played over 20 minutes of 5v5 time in that game...so if he did actually sit for the last 2&1/2 minutes (which I question). The amount of 5v5 time he played is even more spectacular.

Now put out there 5v5 minutes... it'll closely mirror the list is my guess.

I'm not sure what you mean by that?

In a series where the Devils outscored Tampa 8 to 4 in non PP goals, it's pretty mathematically challenging to end up a -2 or -3 like Severson & Greene did.

Butcher +4
Mueller +2
Moore +2
Lovejoy +2
Vatanen +1
Santini +1
Severson -2
Greene -3

The guys playing the real minutes are going to be on the ice for the goals against...

If your anactodal +/- minus chart hard any meaning we can play Butcher for 25 minutes 5v5 time and be all set...

But no.. he's a +4 because he doesn't play real situations and is wheeled out for offensive opportunities. That is why there is an obvious decline with players who play real minutes.

Ohhhhh...... so the reason Severson was benched at the most critical time of the entire night was because he needed a break! ROFLMAO

Two minutes and 20 seconds to be exact. Severson & Moore comes off at 17:40. Greene Vatanen then go on for a LONG shift taking the game right to 19:00.

For the final minute of the tied game, Mueller is sent out with Moore instead of Severson. Because Severson was "tired" in your mind. Sure, I bet that's it.

Staggering takes. Facebook level. I’m done.

Sorry for pointing out the obvious that some here are refusing to see.

Yes. *REFUSING* to see.

Severson is NOT GOOD. That's it.

I mean what good is it to have any Hockey skill if you don't use it wisely. Someone else mentioned it : Severson is a Dumb Hockey Player.

Enough is enough already with the constant defending of someone who makes Ben LoveJoy look like Scott Stevens.

Let me reiterate.

The Devils OUTSCORED Tampa this year 8 to 4 in non PowerPlay situations.

And you're explanation for why Severson was a -2 is because he was out for the "real minutes" instead? Golly, how "unreal" were the minutes he wasnt out there when the Devils scored 8 goals?

You're embarrassing yourself now in a tortured attempt to defend Severson. You dont have to defend everything he does. These games against Tampa only represent 3 games for heaven's sake. It doesnt mean Severson stinks, but it does mean your belief he was awesome against Tampa this year is completely unfounded.

It’s unreal. I stopped keeping up with the thread because it has been all sorts of embarrassing, but in the last 24 hours my favorite takes are:

1) Hynes told the team to lose on purpose in Washington.
2) Eddie Lack needs to be the backup over Cory Schneider in the playoffs.
3) Brian Gibbons should play over a healthy Marcus Johansson.

No. Let me reiterate...some dmen carry a more difficult work load than others.
Leave Severson out...you actually think Butcher, Moore and Lovejoy have been better than Greene, Santini and Vatanen...
You are the only one embarrassing yourself with this nonsense.

Brian Gibbons should play over a healthy Stefan Noesen though.

And during that "more difficult workload" Severson ended up -2 in a series when New Jersey outscored Tampa 8 to 4.

Gee; perhaps he should have been given a "less difficult workload".

Severson plays defense like 6th defenseman, and has an offense of a top 4 defenseman.

You want to know what is totally ridiculous, it's when Severson makes a simple play defensively and all his fan boys jump on the occasion to point that defensive play. Makes me chuckle all the time.

Maybe I should just stay away from this thread and not bother anymore for now. Someone let me know when these arguments blow over.

I compare this to a 22 year old cocker spaniel my family had. She had what we call “selective hearing” where you would be trying to call her and she would keep walking in the opposite direction but if you whispered “treat”, she would turn around and come running. You now have selective memory Bleed, as Deron Quint isn’t something many of us want/need to remember.
You actually had a 22 year old cocker spaniel? Damn! That’s like 100+ years old!

It’s not that I’m old yet, it’s jusf that I can feel things slipping out. The memory card in our brain can only hold so much and the longer we live, the more stuff gets stored away and the other stuff gets flushed out.
