Chicago receives:
-6th overall
-31st overall

Detroit receives:
-8th overall
-27th overall
-Anthony Duclair

Is this a deal that makes sense? Detroit only has to drop 2 spots, then their 31st bumps up 4 spots and they get to add Duclair.

How off is my valuation?

In theory I would guess the cost of moving up from 8 to 6 would be that 27th pick all by itself(depending on who is there maybe you can argue 39th pick)

39 yes, 27 no.

it doesnt cost another 1st to move up from 8 to 6. both guys will be in the same tier (Tkachuk/Wahlstrom/Bouchard/Hughes/Dobson)

The 27th might as well be an early 2nd.

All that being said I remember Islanders traded 5th for 7th + 2nd in 2009 + 68th in 2008. They also traded 7th for 9th + 40th going by that standard you would have to figure the 6th pick would value somewhere in between

Don't think Duclair does anything for Detroit. We have plenty of forwards of a similar or higher caliber on the roster or in the pipeline. Moving down from 6th is also a hard sell at this point not knowing who will be available. If Bouchard/Dobson/Hughes are all there, I could see Wings being interested in sliding down 2 spots and still grab one of them. Change Duclair to a 3rd round pick and I think Detroit's more interested.

Detroit passes big time. They are not trading down. They want the best chances they can have at Hughes.

I think Duclair shouldn't be super valuable to the Wings. We've got a lot of middle 6 wingers, and thats what we are best at finding in the middle rounds of the draft. It would be nice to move up a bit with our second pick, but I'd want more/different compensation than Duclair to drop. If Boqvist, Hughes, Bouchard and Dobson are all there at 6 and the Wings rate them equally, I guess I'd do it. But I'd prefer to just stay at 6 and take whoever we think is the best D there.

Choose someone better than Duclair, he seems like yet another 30-40 pt winger we have too many of already.

I think this trade does nothing in long run, but yes, for me Dobson/Boqvist > Hughes.

Change Duclair to a similarly valued D and I think Detroit thinks about it. As is, there's just no incentive for Wings to do this.

Detroit doesn't need 2nd and 3rd pairing D any more than they need 2nd and 3rd line wingers.

As one poster already said, Detroit needs top line guys.

Makes no sense for Detroit. Moving up two spots in the top 10 gonna cost more than Duclair. It'd be more like 6th + 67th for 8th + 27th

Detroit is interested in Bouchard, but if any of the top Dman in the draft were available at 8, I don't see why Detroit wouldn't do it. It would have to be a draft day trade though to see whats actually going on in the draft.
