Hi all. First time poster, long time reader. Read an interesting article recently about the emotional toll sports can have on fans Jets' playoff run taps into 'our evolutionary roots' and takes emotional toll on fans | CBC News, and I have to say I think I fall more into the latter category ie. obsessive, lol. I haven’t hurt this bad since we lost the Jets in 1996. First thing in my mind when I woke up this morning was “I can’t believe it’s over” and “F*** Vegas”. Really don’t feel like doing much of anything today, other than trolling all the forums and Jets articles, even though the weather is awesome. I know this sadness will pass eventually, but man, I really thought the stars had aligned and this was our year. Don’t want to wait another 20+ years for this…

Having said that, I am incredibly proud of this team and this city. With the same hard work and focus, and a little bit of luck we’ll be back in the hunt next year and beyond.

Going outside and hope some sunshine will cheer me up.

Go Jets Go!

P.S. – on a lighter note, any one get weird superstitions over the playoffs? I always felt if I cleaned up and worked hard during game days that the work ethic would somehow magically transfer to the Jets. Stupid I know, but it sure made for a clean house on game days . I think I read somewhere that superstitions give fans a way to feel some sort of control over things.

You have lots of company and your thoughts are pretty common amongst many fans. Sadness, anger, angst and emptiness. Actually I hate Vegas for beating us like a rented mule. I am on the Bolts bandwagon for the remainder, or the Caps if need be.

HOWEVER, my spirit in indomitable and my commitment to the Jets intact. More than that, I trust management to make the right moves to push us forward. It is time to fine tune this team. No sledge hammers needed, imo.

You are not alone in the way you feel. It's easier to be a non-playoff team than to have this feeling of defeat. Yes it's a similar feeling to 1996... but logically it shouldn't be. We'll be BACK !

Yeah I find myself quite bummed out today. I'm keeping busy, but the thought constantly crops up in my head that it's over and I get a knot in my gut every time. I'm very happy with the season over all, but I am a little disappointed by the ease with which Vegas sent us packing. After getting by the Preds, I totally bought in to the general feeling that we were a favorite to win the cup. That died pretty quick with games 2 and 3, but it still feels like things shouldn't possibly have ended the way they did.

I am disappointed but still very happy with the season. This is not even in the top-10 of the most upsetting moments for me in Jets history. I was more upset when the Jets traded up in the 2016 draft than I was at the playoffs ending. At the end of the day if you are fan of a good team, things will end up like this more often than not. Teams rarely win the cup, most teams even good ones lose before the cup finals. Think of the Sharks fans who have had a great team for so long but still haven't won the cup or the Caps fans for that matter. By making the conference finals we have already felt something that many other fanbases haven't in decades.

As long as management keeps making positive moves things will be fine.

I'm sad this will probably be the only run with Stastny on the team. He was such a great deadline acquisition. I just don't see at all how he fits in at anything longer than one more year. Laine, Ehlers, Little, Perrault and if we extend Wheeler... Morrissey and Trouba too... too much money is about to get eaten up. Myers or Buff have to get traded this off season (I know Buff will likely not get traded but still).

Pretty much from the first game we had Stastny on the roster I was impressed with him. Him Ehlers and Laine were awesome in the regular season and he was dynamite the entire playoffs.

Thank God we have Mark Scheifele for a long time. That kid is something else.

As long as we have our Chevy face and smile. We can get through this together. There was A LOT of good from both the season and long playoff run over the eventual bad with the series loss yesterday.

Here's my own perspective... I want our Jets go all out on our quest to the cup. For me this means a Presidents Trophy, a Central Division Champ banner, a Western Conference Championship banner, and then the Stanley Cup all in the same year. Imagine that...

In the mean time... *Hugs* to all. Sports is rough. I hate losing too.

It isn't just the final bumping from the playoffs. It is losing 4 straight games to Vegas. That's 2 things, 1) losing 4 straight games and 2) losing to Vegas.

I have to respect a part of what VGK has done this year - but I don't look at their roster with respect. Barring some seriously good, impactful off-season moves from GMGM they will be a playoff bubble team next year. I would have felt better about it (less bad?) if SJS had beaten VGK and then got by us.

I don't care that they are an exceptional expansion team - we were still beaten by an expansion team.

It's like your long time girlfriend kicking you to the curb via email. It's so unexpected and callous. Time is a great healer they say. Before long, there will be the June Draft, free agency and training camp.

It's humiliating that an expansion team (aka boys) taught the men (aka Jets) how to play playoff hockey.

Haven't checked the numbers but VGK probably entered the POs with a higher avg age and more PO experience than the Jets, so I don't like your analogy much - but yeah.

It is frustrating, but VGK did what they had to do. They didn't fluke it. Its just that they shouldn't have had the ability to do so that gets up my nose.

I guess that's why they still have to actually play the games.

I got over the Jets loss today, but what bothers me more is the fact this is Vegas' first year and they make it the finals. This shouldn't happen in any league unless there are under ten teams, only team I know that did something similar were the Everett Silvertips in 2004.

What's also embarrassing is that Jets could've had Fleury for a second-round pick. Don't know if true considering he had a NTC.

It bothers me too that we lost 2 very frustrating home games to Vegas. I appreciate that they have somehow come together to form a highly competitive and effective team but I honestly thought the Jets could impose their will against them at home and dominate.
I was so wrong.
The Knights style of play just took everything away from the Jets. Again, that surprised me, particularly during the home games.
I truly expected the Jets to come out and dominate the Knights yesterday. I am beyond disappointed that did not happen.

Its a bad idea to get too emotionally tied up in it. Even if they win the cup you won't get a ring or the 50 million $ contract. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is.

With you man, such a bummer and a frustrating way to go out. I know we're just at the beginning of so many years of awesome hockey, but it's hard to see that sometimes when the wounds are fresh. But the Jets are the best and we have the best fans, so we're going places peeps :thumbu:

I’m not to upset, this isn’t the best team we have. Laine and Ehlers are both still really raw(Laine needs time to work on skating and Ehlers needs time to work on puck disruption), Connor has more room to grow(mostly on finishing plays, I wouldn’t be surprised if he became as good as Schief by 25yrs old with his talent), Roslovic has lots of room to grow(potentially a really good 2C), Niku is potentially gonna be a an Elite Scoring Defensmen(and PP specialist), Vesalainen looks like he could be as good as Ehlers or Connor, Samberg is looking really, really good as well, Hellebuyck has proven he’s the best young Goalie in the league, Morrissey is top 30(I think, lol) in 5v5 Defensmen scoring and hasn’t seen the PP yet while being one of the best young defensive minded/ shutdown Defensmen in the league, Trouba is PowerPlay #1 time(and a couple more games played) off from being a 1D....

Not many people expected the success we had this year, but this all we have to give, this team and franchise is one of the youngest and has to be the most talented one in the league by a fair amount.... I don’t think we need to be depressed, this was a I real good season and a sign of what’s to come.

Every year we have that gap between a Jets' non-championship season and a Bombers' non-championship season. At least this year that gap is shorter than ever.

I was really pissed on Friday night then again on Sunday afternoon, I woke up today in a good mood. If I am waiting for a championship as my payoff then I will need to find a new sport. We are going to lose most every season at some point so I am either going to find joy in the journey or I will just end up being one of those termianlly angry posters in PGT's after losses. The ultimate payoff one day will be a Stanley Cup and if that event happens I will cherish it forever. Along the way though I am going to treat every regular season like a playoff to make the playoffs and celebrate that milestone when/if we make it. I will also celebrate the series wins along the way and learn to find piece and enjoyment with incremental victories.

If I am only truly happy when we win the cup this journey is not worth it. This was a great regular season and a great playoff run up until the point we ran into a hot goalie. I was depressed for about 30 minutes but now I am finding the joy in the amazing ride this season brought us.

One of the bigger positives for me is that we know know we can beat Nashville, a team who lead the league in points.

a friend from Brazil told me that there are many smaller accomplishments in soccer that fans tend to grab hold of emotionally. I agree that just celebrating the cup in a 31 or 32 team league is not the way to go. for me it is about entertainment value. did we have a team that was fun and encouraging to watch? I was and am proud of this team.

It stings, and made me not want to look at or read anything to do with the Jets after, else i be reminded of the outcome, but at the end of the day it was a very successful season and a huge step forward for our franchise.
