Dmen getting Hat Tricks in the NHL are as common as a PF or Center getting a Triple Double in the NBA. Not common but happens.

Here's an oddball one... Defenseman Marshall Johnston had a hat trick with the Seals in 72-73... PLAYING LEFT WING!!

Ray Bourque also had only one hat-trick -- during Boston's big 1982-83 season, in an 11-5 thrashing of Quebec, also at the Colisée. (Bizarrely, the score was actually 4-4 almost midway through the second period... then Boston scored 7 of the next 8 goals.)

Interesting. It’s kind of surprising that Bourque had only one hat trick. He had a good (if not elite) shot and he did shoot a lot.

While he beat 30 mark only once, he had what… 9 seasons with 20+ goals and 18 seasons with 15+ goals. Talking about reliable and consisted blue liner.
