Eh. Probably more a look after the younger blokes and teach them how to be a pro. Theres no way he gets an NHL contract again.
Not sure how this isn’t cap circumventing? Whats the difference between this and Larkin signing for cheap, knowing he can just tryout, not report to Grand Rapids and collect his $850,000?

In the overall scheme of things, probably not a big deal. It's just that underlying, undying, unreasonable loyalty that they show to players who have done nothing to deserve it. The only guy that Holland should have showed loyalty to was Yzerman and let him move up to the GM role.

Dan Cleary is the personification of the Wings descent into mediocrity.
Country club member? Check.
Old and washed up? Check.
Slavish devotion to him even though he no longer offer any on ice value to the organization? Check.
What's scary is that the next generation is even less talented, but being paid even more to produce even less.

At least Cleary was pretty useful before his body fell apart.

The gift that never stops giving. I want to call this absurd, but that's an insult to the word absurd.
The Red Wings need bodies in camp while guys are away playing for their country. Clearly fills a spot and is a guy familiar with the way Detroit likes to do things. I don't see the problem here. He doesn't have an NHL contract longer than a few weeks.
It just makes me laugh. No more anger. Just humor.

I honestly think this is it. Even as a pretty consistent holland criticizeii doubt he's giving Clearly another real contract.

But the league changed the requirement to only 8 players due to the World Cup. The Wings have 14 eligible vets without Cleary.
Regardless, they couldn't find a player anywhere else that would've had even a 1% chance of being on the team?
