For the record, these guys will lose their eligibility if they choose to enter this year's draft.

Someone told me Drew Stafford would lose his eligibility if he entered this year. Did you just miss him or was I misinformed.

Thanks

Actually, Parise plays on a line with Brandon Bochenski and Brady Murray. IIRC, when I saw North Dakota play Stafford was playing with David Lundbohm and Quinn Fylling.

That's true. He's a late '85 birthdate just like Hensick so he'll lose his college eligibility.

Opt-ins

That is correct that players like Stafford, Pineault, Thelan, O' Neil, Sigalet, etc... (late 85s + reg. 86s) would lose their eligibility if they opt-in. However, two factors are at work. Some NCAA coaches are trying to get emergency legislation passed to let these guys enter the Draft. Also, it is widely regarded as a weak Draft and these players would have a very good chance of being drafted in the first round.

Stafford has played with a bunch of different players, as the only line that has stayed intact from game to game has been Parise-Murray-Bochenski. He has spent basically zero time on the ice with Parise this year.

The main knock on Stafford last year was that he wasn't as good as his SSM teammate Sidney Crosby. People are learning that there's no shame in being a notch below Crosby, and Stafford's pretty good in his own right.

He's big, not afraid to go into the corners, likes to check, and has nice hands. He has a burst of speed with the puck that reminds me of Vanek. Otherwise he's not very much like Vanek - doesn't have his sick puck skills and no one will accuse Stafford of dogging it.

Bingo! I agree, he's going to be a good one, although i've seen him play twice. ;)

If the Ranger's take a D-man, he's a good bet to be their pick. Ok, i've just got a hunch, don't crucify :p

This will likely have a huge effect on who teams like the Capitals draft I am betting. It just makes a weak year weaker. We just need to get CP back and we're all set.

I have to agree with everyone's assessment of Stafford. He's been terrific thus far with UND. Like cagney, I also saw him playing with Fylling and Lundbohm.

I'm gonna throw in my selection for player-to-watch from this list. He's defenceman Jeff Likens out of Wisconsin. I can't say enough great things about this kid. Great skater, terrific hands with superb passing ability and reads plays very well. The knock on Likens however is his size (5'11/175).

The reports I've been given note Stafford and Parise on the ice together. Not every shift but at times.

Are they playing the PP or PK together or something?

No. Parise kills penalties with Bochenski. Stafford hasn't played any PK.

4x4 Parise is usually with Bochenski. Stafford has had a few 4x4 shifts with other players.

Parise's line is the first PP unit and Stafford has had a little time on the second unit.

Maybe they've played together for a few seconds during line changes...

I don't think anyone was making statements that those players will or won't be in the draft, just pointing out that there's a good possibility that they won't.

Hey guys

Keep an eye on Birnstill and Schaeffer. I played with both of them on Long Island. They are exceptional hockey players. Big, like to throw the weight, and good hands.

Take care

AJ Thelen is going to be a great dmen, loads of size and offensive ability, averaging over a ppg in his first year of college.
The youngest guy on a stacked MSU team. He gets tons of icetime as a 86', not bad at all, gets used in all game situations and is probably one of the best defencemen MSU has right now. He is prone to taking some shifts off, but when he turns it on watch out. Canon of a shot, knows how to QB the powerplay, plays physical. He should be a good one.
