People talking about waiting out the season to sign a deal, apparently Dorion+Anderson's people weren't on the same page early during talks until they sat down face to face.

Had they not sat down face to face and opted to wait it out, there's no guarantee this same deal gets done next June.

Dorion got him in person and hugged him and it made Anderson feel so good he took whatever offer was presented. Our GM is a genius.

Goalies have weird trajectories. Dwayne Roloson managed respectful numbers until he hit 40. Brodeur and Hasek went into their 40s. Roy retired in his late 30s.

Belfour, Joseph, Thomas, Khabibulin are all guys who played into their 40s with a decent variety in career paths. Who knows how much further Thomas would have gone if he didn't take a year off to hide in a bunker with his family.

It's not a no risk gamble but it's hardly like we're signing a skater where you will clearly see the decline in their mid/late 30s (even in a guy like Jagr). Anderson looked as great as he ever was.

Johnny Bower Played until Age 45.

I think this was his worst move. Yes, even worse than Burrows (which was... not good). At least Burrows helped us last year, there was NO reason to extend Anderson when he did. Zero, zilch, nada.

So is there any plan to improve the goaltending going into next year or is the 30th sv% team going with status quo hoping their 37-38 year old goaltender can improve drastically?

Or are we hoping career back up/journeyman condon can be a top goalie?

Or are we trying to stink up the league for a couple years for top picks?

What is the plan here guys?

Epic bump. He'd get between 1-2 million on a one year deal. Doron strikes again.

Some of the responses from Ice and Formenton future at the beginning are hilarious.
This is why I don’t put all the blame on Melnyk. Yes, he’s a cheap fraud and the worst owner in the NHL but Dorion is one of the most incompetent GM’s in the league. Bottom three are Benning,Chiarelli and Dorion.

Dorion must go as well.

I'd take Benning out and put Bergevin there. Benning seems to have figured stuff out, like fleecing Pierre Dorion for example.

No plan imo, were backed into a corner here and will basically just cross the fingers and pray as well as hope for further development from the young guys, does Hog and Gus split in ECHL after we re-sign Taylor and trade back for Hammond?

Dorion is digging himself a nice big hole... Too bad. Likely a good AGM../Head of scouting / Farm team... So far he is showing he is out of his depth
He'd probably be fine in any position where he didn't get to make the final decisions. He gets so tunnel visioned. Once he makes his mind up, he goes for it regardless of consequences. Its completely reckless and stupid to be frank.

Agreed and once he gets to the deal he wants the extra little 2nd and 3rd rounders seem so frivolous to him he adds them like they were nothing

Best goalie in franchise history but it’s time to let him go.

Anderson + Harpur for Neuvirth + Myers

That’ll be a steal and Philadelphia is desperate.

Anderson's stock is pretty low right now. Hopefully he can get a good start next season and show the league he still has it. Then package him up with someone like Zack Smith and get the best deal you can.
Dorion's future as a GM rests on what he does to dig the Sens out of this hole.

Meh ,Andy had a rough year but he will bounce back...Its not as if he recieved much help last season, people need to stop crying about his contract....He has a short term deal ,and there isnt anything else that would come close to what Andy can bring on the F/A market or through trade

I was screaming this entire season if Ottawa wanted to deal Anderson Philly at the trade deadline made too much sense. But either:
-Ottawa doesnt plan on trading him
-Philly had no interest (which is dumb, he would have been better than Mrazek)

I think you are seeing goalies more volatile than ever in the NHL. Guys sucking one year and being solid the next, etc. If we keep Anderson I still have hopes he bounces back from his terrible season. I know 37 is getting up there, but he also started to play more games later into his career which should help.

Going to the same old and tried Ottawa Senators trademarked method of doing absolutely nothing and hoping everything turns out perfect has got to work for us finally one of these years, right?

Status quo again and keep the fingers crossed and pray for a miracle is my guess at "the plan"

Anderson is the team's best bet, the contract extension was a surprise by many here given his age, but in hindsight it looks terrible with the season he's had.

That said, Andy is more of a cerebral goalie than an athletic beast, so even at 37 he can bounce back. He's still this franchise' best hope, and starters don't grow on trees (i.e. quality ones are unavailable, and promising ones cost an arm and a leg that this org cannot afford).
