New research is showing we might be at the phase, of what is normally a 70 year cycle, of the Earth's core stopping and getting ready to change direction of its spin. This is one area of study that has a lot more debate as while most who study it feel the core does spin and usually faster than the surface, there is still a small group that feels it does not spin at all.
