You have to try really hard these days to lose your playing eligibility at college. That would be a red flag for the sabres. These schools have teams of retention specialists that hold these athletes hands through their academic career, and allow them to drop/withdraw from classes to the bitter end.

Not at Notre Dame.

The QB of the football team got his scholarship yanked due to poor academic performance.

Is he a prospect that the Sabres would be ok with trading? He was drafted high, and center are hard to come by in the NHL. It sounds like his stock may have dipped some. Are you as Sabres fans high on him at all?

I have hope for him but I wouldn't cry losing him if he was added in a package deal for a top 4 LHD

I doubt Hurley has much trade value, possibly next to none depending on why he didn't finish the season.

I'd easily move Hurley, quite cheap too I'd add. He has little to no value. If we can convince a team to take Hurley over Bailey/Baptiste/Fasching in a package deal for a dman I think that's the extent of his trade value. On his own he isn't worth a thing.

What team would ever accept Hurley over legit NHL prospects who are close to ready?

Probably zero. That's why I said that's the best case scenario. Maybe a team desperate for centers who are full up on wings would but I doubt it. Pretty much Hurley is a bust through and through.

The only way he does is if they sign him and then he develops into a player.

Yep, he's a longshot at best right now.

We use our own on Hurley? I thought we traded up to get him. I remember compher as a part of that deal too.

Hurley was the Sabres own selection. Compher's pick and McBain was what Sekera returned. The picks used on Bailey and Florentino were from the Leopold trade.

Ok. I'm a Pens fan, and the Penguins have essentially no centers in their system behind Geno and Sid save Sundqvist next year when Bonino becomes a UFA and Cullen retires. Long shot center prospects with potential but very little cost should be appealing to the Penguins. I wonder if he could be included in a package for Maata or the RFA rights to Sheary. He obviously couldn't be the main piece, but someone worth including I would think.

How did he become not even a former player?

Did...did they time travel and erase him from existence?

Still so unclear on what happened and why and even if he'll be back in South Bend for this coming season.

We have to come up with conspiracy theories.

I would've thought that having the local hockey press in one location, say for something like, ohhh... a Development Camp that he is attending and present at would be a perfect opportunity to find out what is going on. Instead... nada.

Time to make crap up, then?
He obviously got kicked off the team for beating the **** out of Cal Petersen when he found out Cal wasn't planning on signing with Buffalo at the end of the season.
