I am curious which one everyone would take, I hear leaf fans think pretty Highly of him and I am curious what the majority of you would do if you had the choice.

I am a flyer fan i have really liked what i have seen from Coburn, I have seen Carlo play and I think he has some real potential as well.

I would personaly take Coburn but I have seen alot more of him than Carlo.

From the time Coburn spent in Philly, he looks like he's going to become a star defenseman. He skates incredible for his size, he moves the puck very well, he has a very good shot, and he's smart in his own zone. He isn't an overly physical defenseman despite his size and like most defenseman, he struggles a bit with consistency. That said, the upside is clearly there and although he's not going to be Phaneuf, I do think he's capable of living up to the expectations of a top 10 pick.

As for Carlo, obviously I haven't seen as much of him. Carlo is a more physical defenseman and like noted in this thread, he's had more injury problems. If Carlo can stay healthy and improve, he too can be a very good defenseman, but I'm not sure he has the raw tools that Coburn has.

I know little about Cobourn but Carlo will never be more then a 6 defenseman in the NHL IMHO, and is a long shot to even make the Leafs starting 6 next season. So I pick Cobourn.

Cola has shown a bit of promise over the past 3 seasons, but can't stay healthy. He looks to be an NHLer, but not top end.

Coburn, we've seen a lot less of, has shown real good ability and looks like he'll be a top 4 dman.

Coburn (even in limited glimpse) looks a lot better than Cola (and could justify his high drafting position).

Coburn has had the term "bust" following him around for the last year or so. He had a tough time trying to make it on the big team, and there was always the comparison to Phaneuf since Braydon was taken before him.

Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery. Since he went to Philly, he's been one of their best defencemen. I absolutely love this trade, and think he can turn into a pretty special player. Size, skill and skating are all part of the package. He's got the 3 "S"s, he just needs to add the 4th...Sperience! :naughty:

Carlo Coliacovo has been the Leafs best defensive prospect for what seems like a decade now. Everytime he finally heals up long enough to show what all the hoopla is about, he's back on IR. I feel sorry for the guy, because it's obvious he has the talent to play.

And for that reason alone, I'll take Coburn. Both have shown they can play, but if there's one thing you can count on with Cola, it's that he'll be injured before long.

Strange that all the comparisons used to be pitkanen vs. cola, now they're coburn vs. cola.

Is it a PHI-TOR thing?

(Although doesn't look good for Cola, as Pitkanen has shown some real flashes of all-star ability and now cola is compared to a player regarded as "close to bust" or one of the worst picks of 2003)

havent seen enough of carlo, but i like coburn alot since hes arrived.

looked like since he knew the team was bad, he could just play his game, and not look over his shoulder. hes huge, is really fast not only in general, but especially for his size. has a good shot, and his outlet passes have gradually improved. i think this trade could be a big time steal, and im excited about braydons future.

you're ridiculous... have you made that donation yet?

big mouth...

personally, its hard to compare the two, a healthy cola gets my vote but given the injury questions i'd go with coburn.

I haven't seen much of Coburn, hopefully I see more next year because I really like the big capable shut down type defenders.

Colaiacovo if healthy displays a pretty good hybrid of defender. He's almost like what we were expecting Kubina to be, but Colaiacovo being a more mobile defender. He can move the puck, has good offensive instincts, aswell as defensive, and can lay big hits. The only question...health.

I think it will become more clear after next year to see what both are capable of. Hopefully both are able to shake their labels of "bust" and "injury prone".

I think if cola doesn't "get it up" next yr then he'll be both "bust" and "injury-prone"

No, he's not really a bust because when healthy he's a force. I guess you could say he's a bust, but not because he doesn't have the skill but because of his injuries.

Cola has been in/up in/out of the leafs lineup for 3 yrs now? He was always Compared to pitkanen, phaneuf and all the others that have since arrived. Now he's compared to a guy who just played in the NHL this season and showed as much/more than cola has shown in how many stints?

After all the hype, I haven't seen enough of the skill, offensive talent or steady defending. He has been pro for 4 or 5 yrs. He is not the number 1, nor the number 3 or 4 we thought we had when he was drafted so far.

I think next yr is the last chance to see if he's a 4th defenseman or not worth waiting for anymore. (White played better and I'd rather see him get minutes)

It seems that you didn't watch Colaiacovo much last season. He was extremely steady and him getting back in the lineup coincided with the team getting back into the playoff hunt.

I'd think most Leaf fans would disagree with you there Hammerwise.

Many thought Colaiacovo was a bonafide top 4 defender when in the lineup, and others thougth he was the 3rd best defender behind Kaberle and Kubina down the stretch.

I think the decision is quite easy and it should be Braydon Coburn for the simple fact that he is not Leaf property.

Coliacovo, if he can stay healthy. I like what I see from him, Coburn not so much. I only saw a little of him this year and wasn't impressed. But hopefully for philly he turns to be a great player for them. Now Parent is a different story, great move by the flyers to get him, huge fan of his potential, I suspect he's going to be a very good nhler in time.

You're pretty much wrong on all counts.
