To be fair to Hoffenheim it's not like they had an easy road to qualification, and I think they would have done well had they qualified (though I haven't followed their Europa adventure so I can't say if they've done a Spurs or if they're genuinely just lost).

One stage below (Euroleague) only Köln (last in the league without a single win so far) has a slim chance to advance today.
So (probably) only ONE Bundesliga team (Bayern) in TWO competitions might make it out of the group stage.
Dortmund - fail
Hoffenheim - epic fail in 2 competitions
Leipzig - fail
Berlin - fail
Köln - last game at Red Star

Only Bayern turned it around after firing Anchelotti.

This is a bad record.

Atleast we can call these teams German

Not all teams prioritize the EL or even the CL (see Napoli) over their domestic competitions. May have been the case for Hoffenheim. Dortmund's failures have been discussed to no end here. Leipzig were just average. The other teams... well, I had no hope for them anyway. Those teams have always sucked in the EL. Top 6 could be better equipped to compete in Europe with Schalke, Gladbach, and to a lesser extent Leverkusen all improving this year.
