Nope, it was a legal hit in 2007. The rules have changed since then, but Neil always adjusted to the new rules, hence why he was never suspended.

In a weird way, this is a true "end of an era" moment. Players like Neil are basically non-existent in the league now, and you can be assured we will not see another play 1000 games. He's the last of the significant heavyweights.

One of the few guys in NHL history who was able to fight and hit with the best of them, and also had a respectable set of mitts. I'll always remember his impromptu toe drags that caught defenders off guard, lol.
