Crosby headlines CHL All-Star team

Canadian Press
5/21/2004

KELOWNA, B.C. (CP) - Rimouski Oceanic centre Sidney Crosby was named to the Canadian Hockey League's first all-star and rookie teams Friday, adding those honours to the CHL awards he won earlier this week.

The 16-year-old from Cole Harbour, N.S., was the CHL's top scorer this past season and was named the league's player-of-the-year and top rookie earlier this week.

He was joined on the first all-star team by forwards Jeremy Williams of the Swift Current Broncos and Corey Locke of the Ottawa 67's. Dion Phaneuf of the Red Deer Rebels and James Wisniewski of the Plymouth Whalers were the defenceman named to the first all-star team and Red Deer's Cam Ward was selected the team's goaltender.

Ward won the CHL's goaltending and Wisniewski picked up the defenceman awards on Wednesday.

The second all-star team included Corey Perry of the London Knights, Kyle Brodziak of the Moose Jaw Warriors and Jean-Michel Daoust at forward, London's Dennis Wideman and Doug O'Brien of the Gatineau Olympiques on defence and Martin Houle of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in goal.

Forwards Gilbert Brule of the Vancouver Giants and Bryan Little of the Barrie Colts, defencemen Raymond Macias of the Kamloops Blazers and Boris Valanik of the Kitchener Rangers, and Mississauga IceDogs goaltender David Shantz joined Crosby on the all-rookie team.
