I kind of figured someone would be interested in Martinsen when he was waived. Obviously he cleared, but seems like there was interest after all.

Seriously : Who the **** is Kyle Baun?

College free agent signed in 2015. At the time, he was being pursued by a number of teams. Chicago signed him and had him play in a couple NHL games (in order to burn a year off his ELC). Perhaps notable for being the grandson of Bobby Baun. But he didn't pan out to be an NHL regular.

...None of this happens if Eric Gelinas doesn't sign an AHL-deal with Laval. So basically Gelinas on a AHL deal was preferred to Martinsen on a NHL-deal, with Redmond and Deslauriers being the middle-men.

Gelinas was also a Avs last season.

That's also very convoluted for 14th forwards/8th D-Men type of players. Of course Baun being a 20th forward or something. WTV.

Whats with Bergevin and his dumspter diving trades? Why does he seriously waste time calling GMs for such trades.

Martinsen is a big body who can have some bottom six impact with the right team. Not a bad move for the Hawks, not ground shaking either but I get it.

Exact.

No need to overact for minor trades. Martinsen and Redmond were better callup options than Deslauriers and Baun so it's a minor loss.

However, Habs still have McCarron, Holland, Terry, Carr, Froese, Jerabek, Taormina and Lernout as potential callups.

Sadly for Martinsen, he would likely have stuck with the big club had the Habs decided to go with 14 forwards instead of 13F/8D.

...Redmond wasn't a better callup option than anyone since he was way, way down the depth chart, and thus would never've been called up.

Teams need depth, and teams have culture and style needs, and teams have minor league affiliates with vet limits, and players have different contract lengths and obligations

There are hundreds of reasons for these types of trades.
