Man is this old. There is a reason they are shown. Just like there is a reason teams like the Rangers and Flyers are always on NBC. If the CBC could get the same numbers showing the Sens and Flames or Habs they'd show them, don't you think? The Leafs just draw the biggest audience and are the networks largest cash cow, which the CBC needs to fund other departments.

Then wouldn't it make sense to give up the rights for Sens or Habs games on Saturdays to stations that will actually broadcast the games? I mean it's not liek the CBC is losing revenue on the games they're not showing.

They won't do that, they want to convert as many hockey fans to the white and blue. Forcefeed the Leafs down our throats until we all become zombies.

The CBC will maintain exclusive Canadian coverage of NHL games on Saturday nights, including traditional doubleheaders and more regional telecasts.

The CBC also retains exclusive Canadian coverage of the Stanley Cup Final, the NHL All-Star Game and the annual NHL Awards, and continued coverage of Canadian teams in the playoffs, ensuring national coverage of all Canadian clubs involved in the post-season.

“Indeed, we have come a long way since that first full-game English broadcast, the Bruins against the Maple Leafs, was transmitted from Maple Leaf Gardens,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “We have gone from partial games during the regular season and occasional games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the grand moment, this coming Saturday, when Hockey Night in Canada will begin a new tradition which will only enhance the viewing pleasure for hockey fans in this country: Both games of the double-header will be provided in high definition. CBC does an absolutely outstanding job of bringing the sights, sounds and stories of NHL hockey to its audience, and hi-def helps take the excitement, entertainment and intensity of the viewing experience one step higher.”

Both games will be in HD and the games will be online too on cbc.ca!!!!!

"and more regional telecasts."

While we won't know for a bit, I hope this means that CBC will be forced to show every game that they hold the rights to. We will see though.

Leafs will be limited to 23 games, Habs 17. Gary Bettman wants the CBC to show more games from the other CDN teams. Way to go Bettman!

Also, games that are not televised will be available online via CBCs new internet package.

I wonder what they will be charging for the internet feeds of their games. Seeing as any Canadian with a television set gets CBC for free, it'd be hypocritical for them to charge for an inferior product like internet TV.

This doesn't make sense.. Where are you getting this info? How can the NHL dictate the CBC's broadcast schedule?
