Line Combos: Capitals line combinations

I'd start Ovy with Bäcks and see how the other line does. If it struggles, split them up.
I don't have much hope for Wolski but Perreault could break in to top six. Laich-Ribeiro-Brouwer? Too slow? Maybe switch MoJo and Laich, their finishing skills are about the same anyway and MoJo could probably keep up better with Ribs.

I don't expect Wolski to get into every game (call me bearish on him until proven otherwise), so I expect Ovi to be in the top 3 for most shootouts. I would think having a righty to break up the pattern of lefties (if Hendricks/Backstrom and Ribeiro are regulars) would be seen as some sort of advantage, too.
That's the exact lineup I put together.
If I'm remembering correctly, the Chimera-Laich-Ward line started out last season really well. I'd put that combo back together and let the top 6 situation be fluid depending on chemistry, Wolski's production, etc.
As far as the defense goes, assuming Poti isn't ready to go right away, that looks most likely. I'm not familiar at all with Hillen. Does he normally play RD?

Oates realizes our team is very very thin at scoring RW and does the obvious, move Ovi to RW. Its a no brainer to me.
Ward will resort back to regular season Ward. Crabb will easily pass him on the RW depth chart, on effort alone.
I am bullish on WW. No expectations, he has no pressure, we have nothing to lose. He has dedicated himself to stay in shape, I think he will be hungry. How hard is it to put a stick on the ice and skate to the net for Ribs anyways?
Poti will surprise. If you think hockey players forget how to play hockey, I laugh.
MJ is meh at RW and remains soft along the boards. He needs to be at LW so at least he can protect the puck with his body driving his wing, until he bulks up or graduates to center next year.

if you read the poti story, he had talked to the media but had not talked to mcphee yet. mcphee is calling up schilling to have 8 for camp workouts. poti commented that he hasnt had contact yet. he said the last two weeks have felt better than in two years and the pain is almost gone.
read all that together and i'd be surprised if poti passes his physical.
if poti could skate like an nhl player, i agree that he would be able to play top 4 d level. i just think his healthy and his skating ability are still a huge question mark.

With the news that Backstrom is visiting a specialist for his "dizziness", what would the lines look like with Nick removed? Do they move Johansson back to C?

He has scored 20 goals 2 times. The next Chris Valentine, yeah sure maybe.
But in George we put our faith. George will send him to Hershey if he doesn't hustle.
We are so thin at scoring wing, I don't see it difficult at all for him to win a spot on a scoring line. Who is he competing with, Chimera and Hendricks? He is competing with MJ Brouwer and... MP? Know that I see Laich at center.
Based on his salary and knowing he has been hanging at the Roberts Clinic, I will stick to my guns and say he should easily exceed expectations. A lot of hockey is simply hard work.

Thank you kind sir. I couldn't find any up-to-date stats via a quick Google search. Based on what I did see, it looks like his production rate put him towards the top of his club.

Btw I think we are severely underrating Crabb. He can put up a decent amount of points for a 3rd liner. No way he should be behind Ward on the depth chart.

If our scoring lines are producing, it does not really matter which wing most goals are coming from. Furthermore, Caps will be thin at scoring at whichever wing Ovi doesn't play. Since we already have two serviceable top 6 RWs in Johansson and Brouwer, I don't see any advantage of moving Ovi from his preferred wing, especially considering he's never had the same success playing on the right side.

To me this would be a fairly balanced setup. Our third line becomes very fast with Chimy and MP90 in there. Our 4:th line becomes a nice little enigma here with a lot of defensive work mentality, while still being capable of some surprises on offense due to both Hendricks and Crabb actually having some offensive upside.

I actually like Hillen in there on the third pairing as I have watched him quite a few times before and really likes his style of play. Hates the fact that Hamrlik cannot be dropped to the bottom pairing in favor of a younger top 4 D-man, but I guess we have to do with what we have right now. Pretty please Poti return in shape to save us all
