Where are we at next year Cap wise with the exact same team,When quickly looking at it we will be around 80 million which is a problem unless I am missing something?

Enstrom's almost 6 million dollar salary will be off the books but i agree Chevy has some heavy lifting to do this summer .

Yes I didn’t include Enstrom’s salary and it still adds up to 80 mil.

Great post! What about bonuses, don't they count towards your cap? There's no space for bonuses with that roster.

I included bonuses in the totals. But here is a breakdown:

* I assumed the same contract as Roslovic as they were drafted in similar positions.

You can't have a back up goalie who make 4 plus and is brittle, that contract needs to go, hopefully Little play warrants 5 plus and Matty P probably looking for a new address maybe even Myers, Stastny on this team is a pipe dream considering the number that he will want.

Vegas just showed. You don't need to pay superstars to win. Laine should nor get anything over 7.5 to 8 mil after his terrible playoffs. Chevy can't fall in love with his players. Even Wheelers contract better not be for longer than 4 or 5 years.

Get rid of :

1. Myers
2. Perreault
3. Kulikov*
4. Enstrom

I think Kulikov's career is coming to an end. Back problems only get worse, and it looks like it will be like Grant Clitsome. Myers will certainly go, if Trouba is signed. Perreault is dropped for cap reasons. Enstrom goes back to Sweden.

Totally agree ... I hope Vegas does win now so teams do not over pay for FAs.
Paid the goalie ... get a good coach and you have lots of extra cash to pay off the right people to get to the finals.:D

You do realize that Vegas will be overpaying to keep all these players that had career seasons right. What do you think Karalssons 40 goals gets him this summer? Probably 7 million.

Also will you be singing the same toon if Tampa takes them out (A team that has super stars that they are paying big dollars to)

Yeah. This whole Vegas thing will change how Gms build their teams.

I don't think its possible to build like Vegas. They got fortunate in that a favorable expansion draft allowed them to pick already developed players on bridge deals/expiring deals or cheap deals and build a one off shot with a roster that over performed their salary. Next season many of these players are going to get paid big dollars and they will have the same issue as the rest of the league.

It's funny but the highest paid player on Vegas apart from Fleury played 1 game against us and their 3rd highest paid will never play from them. The rest of the GM's in the NHL should be ashamed.

Jets will need to manage the cap this year and going forward of course, but that is simply what you do and what needs to done.

Remember they essentially had their 2 C for this run AND next year in Brassard at 5 million dollars. So they had a plan allocating that amount for at least one more year for that position. There absolutely is a realistic way to keep Stastny , that doesn't mean it is done with an easy button though.

Jets have already spent significant assets to require a 2C, signing him would just take dollars ( and desire from Stastny of course ) that to me is more palatable than trying to replicate a similar deal at the trade deadline next year.

Production from that spot is more vital to the success of the Jets than the 3LW slot and it is much easier to fill there from within for the Jets.

Not a lock by any means but I would say it is a lock that the option to keep Stastny is being planned around and contemplated. As it should be.

They might not have wanted to keep Brassard for next season. There was speculation on trading him at the draft to recoup some value.

While I agree with getting solid production from the 2nd line C, I am fairly confident Little bounces back and is able to cover that production. I also would like to see Roslovic play C next season and grow into the role. If he is able to then there is no need to spend assets to acquire a C at the deadline.

In the end barring Statsny taking a 2 year 10 million dollar deal (Does anyone really see him doing it?) I don't think its smart to bring him back. He's been a 45 to 55 point player the last 4 seasons and is already 32. I just don't see the upside.
