I am not trolling now I believe game threads should be quite positive after a victory. However impossible to underestimate how much ego is on the line for negative posters to be righ. This is highlighted that they can not enjoy their team playing well and winning.

On one hand it's good to see team win

On the other, wins like these are at best Pyrrhic victories. The team still severely lacking in talent on almost every position, and winning a couple of games or chasing the playoffs isn't doing much in the grand scheme of things. It's like if I broke my arm, instead of going to the hospital and get surgery, I just take pain killers and ignore the injury.

It’s interesting that Bonose thinks Sutter is a 4th line caliber player, though

You have to admit, 4th
I know you don’t care. And I know why you’re avoiding answering.

Weren't you complaining last year that Willie wouldn't roll four lines? And now you're crying that the so called 4th line gets too much ice. Ice time is getting spread around efficiently I think and the 3rd and 4th lines are interchangeable.

Wow!.....are the Sabres really as bad as they looked in this one?......if the Canuck faithful are wringing their hands about Virtanen's development what must be the Buffalo brass thinking about Sam Reinhart?......you look at the Sabres lineup and they've got some assets and high first rounders.....O'Reilly and Eichel are two of the better centers in the league........but they're a tire fire right now.....good time to play them and move on.

Why should threads be positive after a victory though? Is that a rule? I think the reason the posters here you refer to get so worked up is that they see people posting as though this team is a not what it actually is....which is really a putrid mess.

They want a rebuild, but instead they are getting this mediocre nonsense, spending roster spots on aged vets that are really not all that good. People want what Toronto did. Drive out mediocre vets, use cap space to acquire assets, run with youth and lose and then draft well.

We just are not getting anything close to that here.

Maybe you and PG can comment on MS's opinion that Gaunce is a better player than Sutter. Just how bad do you two think Sutter is? what salary is his value as a ufa? I would say 3 to 3.5 million Manny got 3 million 6 years ago, so I think he is over paid by a bit. However he is an obvious Nhl player to me. Is that in question for you as it is for MS?

The Sabres looked terrible. They are as much a mess as Vancouver - but they do have Eichel.

Good performance but wow is that Buffalo team terrible. That will probably be the worst opposition performance we face all year and still essentially only won by one goal.

- Markstrom is so frustrating to watch. He looks so big and technically spot on most of the time, and then these squeaker goals somehow get through him. That 2-1 goal was brutal. But then he was a brick wall the rest of the way.

- full marks to the Sutter line who had a very good night, although not quite as good as their scoreline looks. Dorsett is having the week of his life and he's earned it after the year of recovery he's had. Don't really like him as a player but can't help but feel happy for him. That said, his blown coverage on the 1-1 goal shouldn't be totally forgotten. Granlund was much better after his brutal game against Boston.

- Sedins scored a goal (that probably shouldn't have counted) and were better than against Boston although still probably the weakest line. Glad the goal stood just to see Virtanen get rewarded for a good play. His speed might be the best option for that line right now.

- Horvat much better and that line was dangerous and unlucky not to score. Drove possession well and all three guys had good games.

- Vanek actually had a couple good forechecking shifts and wasn't bad. Not great games for Gagner and Burmistrov.

- Tanev was outstanding again. That said, something is wrong with the icetime allocation when he's playing 2 minutes less than Del Zotto and Hutton at ES. Stecher looked good but everyone does with Tanev.

- Del Zotto rebounded from his poor game and Hutton had a strong effort aside from puck watching on the 2-1 goal. These guys shouldn't be playing 25 minutes, though.

- Biega as usual didn't put a foot wrong and as usual wasn't trusted with more icetime. Frustrating. Pouliot was ... shaky.

Malhotra was a hard to play against defensive shut down specialist. Sutter is just not really any of that. He's a guy that skates well, but that's really it. I would never compare him to Malhotra. That's an insult to Malhotra.

I don’t think I was. Tbf I was annoyed at Willie for a lot of other things so i can see the confusion.

On Eichel's goal Marky got one leg caught on the post in his butterfly drop and it screwed him up. Just bad luck.

You guys need to re-evaluate this big = no holes idea. Look at Nilsson's goals in the last game, a bunch went through him as well. If you have long limbs it's hard to get them into a completely compact blocking position.

I hear all this stuff about "oh they have to be sharper" etc. But when you have a good drop and have tracked the puck it sometimes squeezes through. You've done a lot of things right. But you still get scored on. Stuff happens, as they say. It makes me laugh sometimes because there's really nothing specific you can do but everyone has this idea that there's a magical fix.

Now, sometimes the goalie is too passive and/or is not tracking well so he makes early drops (e.g. Miller last year) and that causes him to make a poor save selection. For example, one thing Marky could do is lean more into his blocks. But that's not a cure-all and probably wouldn't have prevented a lot of those early goals anyways.

Seems like a great discussion for any number of threads. Why game threads after win? Why do the negative posters need to dominate every thread page with the same comments? They have many valid points but time and place matter.

I’ve never weighed in on Gaunce v Sutter and don’t plan to now. Anyone who thinks Sutter is a fairly one-dimensional bottom 6 player who is good for 13-17 goals a season is on the same page as me.

Some people here to calm the f*** down. The Canucks WILL get their losses this season. Lots of them. And sometimes they're going to win games like this against other bad teams, games in which, Yes, players you loathe are going to score and do good things.

There is being pro-tank, pro-blow-it-up, like I am, and there's just being mature about these kind of things. Come on people. Get a grip.

I don't know what you expect them to do? Abstain from GDT's I guess?

We swept the season series against Buffalo, Colorado and Tampa Bay last year, and still ended up finishing second-last. (fun fact: those two wins against Tampa Bay also kept them out of the playoffs by a hair)

I'm sure we'll still be dreaming of Dahlin and top prospects who don't severely injure themselves, into the springtime.
