Chelios would be a great addition, not only due to being a former Norris winner, SCC, but maybe he can impart his secrets of longevity to our defence corps.:dumbo::dumbo::dumbo:

Helios would be useless to the Habs youngsters. The nightlife in Montreal has change way too much from the time that he was here. His advice would be meaningless ;)

I wonder if Julien would be able to convince an unemployed head coach to come in and thrive as the D coach. Look at Martin in Pittsburgh.

He wasn't much of a head coach to begin with, IMHO. One system applied across the board, regardless of the player, regardless of the game situation and regardless of the clock. Horrible at in game adjustments on the fly. Dry as desert sand.

Not much going for him in that role, let's say. Maybe better as an assistant coach where he could let his humour (apparently he's quite funny) work for him. As a head coach, he had taken the tough love approach.

Dinosaurs from days gone by who can't relate to today's players aren't going to get very far. You need to hire some younger guys with newer ideas than what the Juliens and Bergevins have. Millennial aged players have to be able to relate to their coaches or things will go nowhere.

Seriously, MON is one young LHD that can progress alongside Weber (and a healthy Weber) away from having twice as good a D as last year.

Granted, the test sample was short, especially for a Mete-Petry pairing, but Mete-Petry seemed to work (4 games together, though) and Alzner-Juulsen was a quite respectable pairing. If the D looks like:

Brodie - Weber
Mete-Petry
Alzner - Juulsen

for example, from the start of the season, we won't be a bottom feeding D at all. I'd say that we would be in the top third of Ds for this league, around 10th best or so. Of course, that's under the assumption that both Mete and Juulsen won't regress from last season's form.

Things are always worse for a Habs fan when looking at the team's prognostic. Add to that the growing sentiment that Bergevin is mentally challenged and you end up with a view that there is a zero possibility environment surrounding the Habs when it comes to improvements.

At some point, you have to stop looking through a silt stained glass for possible solutions.

This is all self inflicted, we should not be here.
It's too late now, we can't make the NHL team win for the next few years without a doubt, but we can have our AHL team made up with our best prospects like Mete, Juulsen getting plenty of ice time with less pressure and hopefully on a winning team. Lernout can stay the year in Montreal as he needs to go through waiver.

I think you meant NHL team. We do not even compete without a 1-2 center punch that is much better than anything we saw last year and I do not think that Bergevin accomplishes this in one off season. Top 5 pick again next year.

MT? What a way to ruin the good management moves that’s been happening lately eh? Joking aside, I think he would be a good defensive coach but probably not the smart move.

Interested to see who they pick in the end.

2016-2017 MIN Ass. Coach

Ray Bourque
2002-2007 Cushing Academy (USHS-Prep) Ass. Coach

Mathieu Schneider
None

Éric Desjardins
2008-2009 PHI Dev. Coach

Nick Lidstrom
2012-2015 DET Scout
2016-2017 SWE WCup Special consultant

So yeah, only Stevens has a somewhat interesting resume.

He makes a good case. Kinda weird Habs are taking so long to make an announcement on this hire. It's the last coaching hire to be made.
It does seem strange they are taking this long................is their choice still working for someone else?? Or is their guy mulling over their offer??

It’s Gerard Gallant, just waiting for the cup finals to be over.

There has to be someone under contract who they want. Most teams seasons are done though, so, yeah, really not sure.

Roman Hamrlik. Guy completed adapted his play to what his body could handle multiple times in his career.
