Which tournament are we talking about? Or just right now in general?

Assuming everyone is injury free.

Lindholm-Karlsson

Hedman-Stralman

OEL-Hjalmarsson

Klingberg, Klefbom, Ekholm, Larsson, Brodin etc.

Kronwall doesn't make the cut for you?

In general,

and for some reason I've for this weird perception that Sweden is more dynamic,

making them fit very, very well with the Oilers.

Kronwall isn't even top-15 anymore.

His knees are shot.

Canada without a doubt.

As a Flyers fan it would probably be Sweden because we need to generate offense and Karlsson would help

In hindsight I guess it wasn't a good idea to make a thread comparing two hockey nations,

not to incite a country debate, but do you guys feel that these two groups have different dynamics?

I prefer Sweden - if you leave Odyua out ;)

I don't know who would actually play, but based on my personal favorites.

Hedman - Karlsson
Lindholm - OEL
Klefbom - Klingberg

Balance right/left isn't perfect though.

I think Karlsson is the right answer for all teams.

Isn't the whole point of a hockey forum, to debate hockey? ☺️

Sweden has the two best Dmen in the world, then Canada probably have number 3, 4 & 5.

And whoever put Oduya on the top-6, I can probably name 20 Swedish defensemen I'd pick ahead of him.

Pietrangelo - Doughty
Keith - Subban
Vlasic - Burns
(Letang)

Hedman - Karlsson
OEL - Klingberg
Hjalmarsson - Stralman
(Ekholm)

tough call.

I like the top-end skill of the swedes better but the canucks have more skill depth.

But then again the swedes have more imo elite "defensive dmen" in hjalmar, stralman, ekholm (lindholm).

Now clearly Canada will have a ridiculous set of Ds as well (a lot better than whoever is 3rd ranked), but I think Sweden got more versatility. You can chop and mix in so many ways.

Not much between them though.

It's Canada. Problem is all the Canadian ones pretty much are righties.

Im just an Oduya fan and I think Hjalmarrson is overrated.

I would have picked Lindholm but I honestly thought that he was Finnish

Hjalmarsson is not overrated as he doesn't really get that well known, many still think Seabrook is better than him (LOL). Besides putting Oduya over Hjalmarsson is just... IDEFK what to say.

I slightly prefer Sweden's top 4:

OEL Karlsson
Lindholm Hedman

But Canada's 7th D is about as good as their 3rd. Whoever is deeper at 20th wouldn't matter, but the best third pair would, and I prefer Canada strongly there.

In a tournament I'd go with Canada. They'd be unfazed if Burns or somebody wasn't having a good tournament, there are more options. Sweden is done for if their top 4 aren't all in peak form.

With Sweden's top 4, you could have the two best defenseman in the NHL on the ice for the entire game, with great defensive Dmen as their partners. Or you could put them on the ice at the same time.

Either way - the third pair would/should play 3 minutes a night with that top 4.

"NHL playoffs Canada is better."

Im not saying that youre wrong here, Im just curious to know why you say this? EK was the best player in the entire playoffs this season and Hedman was t that bad either in Tampas recent run.

If you're coaching Sweden and are game-planning against Canada, what are your pairs? I'd go with...

OEL - Karlsson --> Score and drive possession, deploy this against the Crosby line

Stralman - Hedman --> Best all-around pair with size to go up against the Getzlaf line

Hjalmarsson - Lindholm --> Stop McDavid
