Or...if you're feeling sinister...go ahead and do the whole league. It's up to you! Pick one candidate from each team that could challenge for the Calder...either as a favorite or dark-horse. If a team doesn't have one...simply say "none"

Anaheim- Perry(don't think he'll be in the NHL yet, but who knows. Or...is Lupul eligible? )
Calgary- Dion Phaneuf
Chicago- Cam Barker
Colorado- none
Columbus- don't know where Zherdev falls in terms of games played....otherwise, Fritsche if he can stay healthy.
Detroit- Kronwall
Dallas- none
Edmonton- M-A Pouliot(I can see him making the team as a darkhorse)
LA- If Cammalleri is eligible...he's my pick, otherwise none
Minnesota- O'Sullivan
Nashville- Suter
Phoenix- LeNeuve(or something)
San Jose- Michalek(comes back strong and healthy, reminds people why he was selected so high)
St Louis- none
Vancouver- Bieksa

Just to add to that list a bit.

Anaheim-Ryan Getzlaf- could be a big producer on a team starved for offense
Colorado-Svatos
Dallas - Shawn Belle - will be a great top 4 guy
Vancouver- Brandon Reid-he's produced at every level and the new NHL should be more permissive for smaller skilled forwards

Just to add to the East:

Boston: Stuart (if he comes to Boston). I'd love to say Toivonen, but he'll only be a backup goalie (Raycroft is the starter), and Lehtonen will be playing with Atlanta this year.

No, Lupul is not eligible.

Brandon Reid won't even be in North America this year. I think he might even be a free agent.

Disagree on Svatos and Shawn Belle as well. Getzlaf...good call. I like his chances of being NHL-suitable more than Perry's.

feel free to add to it

Dion Phaneuf aside, the Calder looks like it will definately end up in the east. No one else from there west looks like they really will ahve a shot, unless Zherdev is still eligible. Kronwall on any other year might be a candidate, but this year he is a longshot at best.

Realistically from Ottawa? None.

Anyway, maybe Kaigorodov if he comes over since. He won't leave Russia for a bottom-six role and as such would have some great wingers to help him adjust to the league. Emery is another possibility. With Hasek as our starter he may see a good amount of games and will have a good team in front of him.

I'm bored, so i'm gonna do the whole league.

Anaheim: Corey Perry...there's just something about him...he's a winner.
Calgary: Dion Phaneuf
Chicago: Cam Barker, he could put up good numbers, I just dont feel like this is a defenseman's year.
Columbus: Pascal Leclaire, only if he wins the job and can lead them into the playoffs + more.
Colorado: Hahaha no. Svatos, but I doubt it.
Detroit: Niklas Kronwall. lol i named my character in morrowind this. i'm such a hockey geek.
Dallas: Is Trevor Daley still a rookie? I doubt he'd have much of a chance.
Edmonton: Marc-Antoine Pouliot....does Schremp have another year in London?
LA: Mike Cammalari stayed healthy all last year, if he can do it again he'll rock.
Minnesota: Patrick O'Sullivan
Nashville: Ryan Suter
Pheonix: Sjostrom isn't still a rookie, is he? LeNeveau if not.
San Jose: how about Marcel Goc! I dont know much about him though. Cept he's German. Thats pretty cool.
St. Louis: Cant think of anyone
Vancouver: No rookie of the year candidates unfortunatly. Bieksa could get a shot at the big club though.

Atlanta: Kari Lehtonen, a very good chance to win
Boston: Brad Boyes might finally be ready, with plenty of roster room on Boston
Buffalo: Tomas Vanek is awesome
Carolina: Cam Ward
Florida: Anthony Stewart could suprise people
Montreal: Kyle Chipchura
New Jersey: Zach Parise
NY Islanders:Robert Nilsson
NY Rangers: Fedor Tyutin, Henrik Lundqvist
Ottawa: Brandon Bochenski
Philadelphia: Jeff Carter bandwagon is where it's at!
Pittsburgh: Sidney Crosby
Tampa Bay: No one from here.
Toronto: Kyle Wellwood has got the moves. And he should survive easier in the "new nhl"
Washington: AO. Sounds like a basketball player when we call him that.

I think Kronwall should be considered the favorite for a defenseman...in the league...and easily the west. Phaneuf is no lock to make the Flames...and Kronwall has already been a dominant offensive force in every place he's played.

Phaneuf was said to be a lock to make the top 4 of the flames last year...

They even traded away a defenseman to make room...

Don't be so sure. For a team competing...bringing a defenseman right out of juniors...even a good one...could be unwise. There's a bigger adjustment period than people realize coming from playing with kids to playing with men. Phaneuf could use at least a half season getting his feet wet in the AHL. It was invaluable to Suter...who NOW, after a full season in the AHL...is ready for the NHL..and I think there's no need to rush Phaneuf in just because we're excited to see him play. The Flames have a good enough defense\goalie that there's no need to hurry him.

I think it will coem down to ovechkin and crosby... and ovechkin will take it.

If it comes down to Ovechkin and Crosby and the Pens have made the playoffs Crosby will win it easily.

He's the NHL's Golden Boy w/out having stepped on the ice. They'll say he "deserves it".

Bank on it.
