Not a bad start for these guys against the Swiss. Ryan O'Marra, who is also 2005 eligible had a goal and two assists for Canada today.

The competition will only get tougher from here on in and we'll see if the 1987 boys can walk through the tourney like they did at the U17 tourney last Christmas.

Cogliano added 2 assists today vs. Sweden, while Brule was unable to get on the scoresheet. Brock Bradford also had 2 assists this afternoon for Canada. Brian Little showed he belongs with the big boys today after banging home two goals for Canada. In the game against the Swiss, Little led the team along with Brule with 8 shots on net.

Who is this Brendan Mikkelson character?? The guy is now tied with Cogliano for the team lead in points with 4 and leads the team with 3 goals. Not bad for a D-man. I haven't heard much about him for the 2005 Draft, but if he keeps performing like he has thus far, he could make a name for himself.

It looks like the lines are as follows;

O'Marra - Cogliano - Hobson

Brule - Bradford - Setoguchi

Little - Bertram - Clutterbuck

I would imagine the other 4 guys would somewhat make up the 4th line or sub in where needed on the above 3 lines. I have no idea which line would be considered the #1 from the 3 above?

Canada defeated host Slovakia 6-3 today in a penalty-filled game. Andrew Cogliano had two power play goals and an assist to lead all scorers. According to the brief game summary, it says Gilbert Brule had a goal and assist and was name Canada's player of the game, however the game stats only show him with a goal so take your pick. Cogliano was name the round robin Pool 'A' Top Forward.

Canada faces the USA Saturday in the semi-finals.

How many points would Crosby have if he was selected to go?? I mean this U18 team is pretty damn good anyways, but man if Crosby was there, it would be scary!!

Canada doesn't see the point to have him playing because we are so deep and he is already a member of the U-20 program....

its a traditional thing eg. Bouwmeester, Spezza etc

Its kind of stupid we hold back our best 17 year old. All so he can practise with the U20??

This doesnt make sense.

Canada's problem is we think of the U20's as the measuring stick and we dont give the U17 or U18 enough attention.

Not enough attention? I think we have won the U18 7 out of the last 8 years.

It would be nice to see Crosby at this tournament, but don't forget the USA didn't send some of their best in Kessel, Ryan, Johnson, Gerbe, etc. Crosby is a member of the U20 team now so he should definitely be at the summer camp with the rest of his teammates and new prospects. He could be at the IIHF U18 tourney in April if everything works out and Rimouski misses the playoffs or is knocked out in the 1st round.

Not only did they not send some of their best, they didn't send any. The US roster is made up of mostly no name '87 prospects.

Lots of teams seem to lack their best players. Sweden lacked their three best players for example(Bergfors, Sundström and Wandell).

It wouldn't of mattered anyways for the USA. This past January at the U17 World Challenge, Team USA finished 4th, behind 3 regional teams from Canada. At that tournament the US had their best players, but couldn't beat 3 separate teams from Canada. The 87's are stacked for Canada and they won this tournament without even being challenged by any of the teams and they did it without the best '87 in the world, Crosby and also with Durand and Latendresse injured and not available.

All of the top U.S. players are playing in the U.S. national evaluation camp this past week in North Dakota. Split squad, Team White and Team Blue, plus a team from Finland and Sweden all played a round robin. I think Team Blue was more of a roster that we're likely to see for the WJC (Montoya, Hensick, Wheeler, etc...). That's why they weren't in Slovakia.

Wheeler wont make it. He looks out of place there. A boy among men. Kessel has a better chance of making it by far.

While this was not the best possible team that the U.S. could ice is true but to say that the Select 17 team was composed of no name prospects is completly false. Players such as Vlassopoulos, Ferriero, Mercier, O'Conner, Chorney and Lawson performed as well or better than many of the NTDP regulars during the Select 17 festival and many of those players could have played for the NTDP had they wanted to.

Your exact quote was that the U.S. did not send "ANY" of its top players, which is false. Some of these players on this select team will represent the U.S. in the World Junior Championships and be considered as some of the country's best.
