Canada will come back and win the gold next year. It'll be a repeat of the years from 2003-2007

2003 - gold
2004 - gold
2005 - silver
2006 - 4th place
2007 - gold

Fixing to work out just the same next year

2015 - gold
2016 - gold
2017 - silver
2018 - 4th place
2019 - gold

This is a BP trademark move. Really drove up CAR's goals against last year pulling our goalie with 5min left, and never replacing him. A 3-1 game quickly became a 6-1 game... Enjoy!

I dont know why this is so funny to me

Goalie: "Hey coach I'm gonna head back into the net"
BP: "No stay on the bench"
Goalie: "But they've scored twice into the empty net and it's 5-1 with only a minute left"
BP: "I said stay on the bench"

Pretty obvious that McElhinney should have been the starter for the medal rounds. Coaching staff is gonna have to own that.

Not saying it would have meant gold with this team but the guy only let in one bad goal all tourney and was the only reason this game was close.

Finishes up with .935% and 1.48 GAA. One of the top keepers in the tourney. Would have made the difference against the Swiss IMO.

Happy the US played after the tough loss.

Always good to face Canada, even if not a full strength tourney!!

Because the U.S. team knows how difficult it is to get a Medal at all in these competitions whereas some other "certain" teams think "No chance for Gold? I ain't showing up".

Good for Team U.S.A. and hopefully they can go further the next time.

Congrats to the US on winning bronze. As to Team Canada, one of those yrs. and tournaments for us. I figure we'll be back strong for the 2019 tournament.

I was surprised by Canada's lackadaisical play. I mean it's the US, I really thought they'd play for national pride if nothing else. I guess not.

I would just like to say this:

Ryan O'Reilly is my favorite Canadian player ...period. This guy just plays with so much heart, has so much National pride by answering the call each and every time...and his interview after the game shows a player who honestly looks and feels devastated here, blaming himself for some of today's failure...you just don't see much like that, and no matter what happened today there are those that gave a shit and have done so for years - he is clearly one of them.

I have nothing but respect for all the guys who take time and come to this, but O'Reilly has gained a lot more from me this tournament.

Good game my brothers up North, lets do this again next year, but for the Gold eh????

I really don't want to say it but you have to wonder if Canada's lackadaisical play was basically a "We lost our opportunity to win Gold so this match doesn't matter. Let's just go through the motions and go home"?

Yeah, but it was the USA. Even during meaningless exhibition or pre-tournament games there's real intensity. This game was just the Canadians just not caring about the maple leaf on their jersey.

That or maybe a team that lost to the USA twice. got whacked by Finland, beaten by Switzerland and was pushed to overtime by both the Latvia and Russia really wasn't deserving of a medal???

I mean Canada never really found the right gear in this tournament, they got the results they earned in my opinion. They just weren't as good as some of the other teams. I think we were giving them the benefit of the doubt for too long in this tournament, the signs were there they weren't playing that great over the three weeks. I bought in too, expecting them to turn it on, but this roster just didn't have it. I don't think they played well enough to win today and I am not sure it was all lack of effort, they didn't have great chemistry throughout the tournament.

Maybe winning Gold means more than National Pride to Canada? :dunno:

I get what you're saying.

But the Canada team we saw against the U.S the first game was not the same team we saw in the 2nd.

They were more competitive and more into the game during the 1st go-round. Hence, it took a SHOOTOUT to decide it.

The 2nd game lacked the "juice"(as they say) it had in Game 1.
