I feel like it was repoted/rumored weeks ago when the Duschene rumors were hot and heavy that Colorado asked for Skjei and the Rangers said now. Seems like Eklund is rehashing old news

Why do people still bother reading Eklund? When was the last time he was right on anything? Duchene doesn't work capwise for us unless we dump salary, and I'm not trading Skjei for him

You are just going to use the group of letters and numbers after the '=' starting with 'F'
Copy that part and paste in between YT in square brackets and /YT at the end in another set of square brackets.

so {YT}FyU1a4c1Tdk{/YT} but change } type brackets into ] type

Thanks.

Maybe kov27 specifically left out our 6th dman. Those 5 look great, no need to add the 6th, especially if it ends with an "L" for loser, I mean Staaaaal. Sorry.

What # defensemen do we think Brady is right now? Use the top 31, next 31, next 31 type classification.

I wanted to see what others had to say. I said before the beginning of the season that he'd need to be a #2D for us to make the playoffs, and that his development was the biggest key to whether or not we make the playoffs. I think he'll get there, but I think he's a #3 defensemen right now, and I think we are still little light defensively. Still made some very nice progress so far this season defensively, even though he's not putting up many points.

Skjei is a solid second pairing guy right now, with a chance to be a top pairing guy. Not as a flashy top pairing guy, but a steady one.

Right now, the only defenseman who is (overall) better than Skjei is McD - and there's no shame in that.

One of the reasons why Skjei is a non-starter for me in almost any deal, is because he's a guy who is very hard to replace. You're talking about a 23 year old, 6'3, 215 pound defenseman who can fly, move the puck and who theoretically has his best days ahead of him. Those players just aren't widely available and his game is tailor-made for the current style of the NHL.

For sure, if you give up someone like Skjei it better mean you have a legit star coming back one way or another. Not that I think you could trade him straight up for some superstar in the league, but more that trading him for an "equivalent" talent at forward is probably actually a downgrade overall.

I think he's been playing better lately. AV's system is real hard on D when it's not working correctly...they get hung out to dry a lot and are forced to try to make difficult plays. With things working a little more smoothly lately, we can see the individuals on D are looking better and not trying to force as much stuff and are able to play to their strengths

Skjei to me is one of our most valuable players. If McD returns to 100%, you have two "modern" defensemen who are great in shut-down roles, who can skate, make outlet passes, and drive offense. Shattenkirk correctly slots in as your 3rd best defenseman, PP specialist.

I would move a Miller before Skjei (note: I wouldn't move either).

Agree, Shattenkirk is a #3D, great offensively, terrible defensively, probably ends up as a net 3D, but that prompts the question, is Skjei yet ready to be a #2 defensemen on a contender?

I think we are fine with 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Staal has been solid, and is showing signs of being able to be a #4D. Smith theoretically should be able to be a #5D even with the slow start, and I think we have a #6D out of Holden or hopefully DeAngelo. That defense has some variety, as well. The question is whether Skjei can take 23-24 minutes against the top lines in the playoffs yet, against Malkin's line or Kuznetsov's line, given these playoff teams have more than one line with star players. McDonagh can shut down Crosby or Ovechkin, but if their secondary stars score 10 points in this series, we could be in big trouble.

And if he can't, its not his fault. Skjei is our second best defensemen, but it might still be a season too early for that, which is why I still question our defense. If this team wanted to contend this season, I think they needed to add a #2 defensemen who could match up with star players instead of adding Shattenkirk. I think they were expecting too much of Skjei who last season was incredibly sheltered. This is his first season in a regular top 4 role.

I don't worry about this kid at all. Besides Mcdonagh he is probably our most important players (present and future) as already stated. By next year and beyond would definitely even feel comfortable with him as a top pairing guy if for some reason we didn't have Mcdonagh.
Its probably not a coincidence seemingly every guy that has paired with him has played their best hockey (i.e. Shatty and Smith)
