Korhonen above Laakso?

I am a Kärpät fan, but Laakso looks like one of the most splendid defensive prospect Finland has had in years...

Laakso is definitely more skilled. However, the reason some of us rank him lower than Korhonen is that we feel Korhonen's game will translate better to the pro level. He has more size and plays a more physical game. His upside is limited but he's a safer bet to becoming a pro.

Top 10 Dmen

1. Jack Johnson-#1 Dman potential. Brings offense and chippiness to the game. Will be picked no later than 3rd in the draft, imho.

2. Mark Staal-This guy is another potential first pairing guy. Lots of offensive size and plays a good defensive game. I have heard it said he is better than Eric, who was in the +30 range this year. Stud!

3. Luc Bourdon-Great offensive game. Some see him as soft and some don't. Talent wise he should go ~15, imho.

4. Ryan Parent-He and Bourdon are opposite bookends. He brings more grit and defensive potential. He and Bourdon would have the same rating on my board.

5. Brian Lee-Gritty guy who has had some inconsistent performances. I look for him late first ala Fistric and Rogers.

6. Scott Jackson-Big and tough. Has a smidge of offensive potential. Kept looking for a reason why he isn't a first rounder. Can't find one.

7. Jakub Kindl-If he can adjust to the physical game he will be a steal. I see him 30-33.

8. Risto Korhonen-His gritty style translates to the NHL. I view him and Lashoff as very similar ratings.

9. Matt Lashoff-Good player missing sdome upside in my mind. Late 30's.

10. Teemu Laakso-Talented skill guy, but may struggle with NHL style. Will be a steal in early 40's.

Korhonen plays more physical, but Laakso's intensity level is what made him a SM-liiga player for 15 games last season... He hustles and he hustles and hustles and always adapts well to playing a tougher game.

You have to remember the SM-liiga has small rinks, and that a high intensity level from the youth years is key to making the senior team early. Laakso might sit on a full-time job with HIFK next season, while Korhonen might still be working with his intensity in the jr's with maybe 10-15 games with the big ones.
