Vonnegut fan, Plural? Let me know what you think if you do!

Absolutely not a fan, but I might become. I'm familiar with his obvious work like Canary In a Cathouse and Jailbird. I'd say I'm interested but not a a yet fan.

By the end of October I'd read 120 books in 2017. Yesterday I finished the last 50 of Moby Dick, book 121. It was either that or expose myself to another Sunderland match.

Next is

I'm reading a lot of books right now by Agatha Christie. She has a lot of great mystery books that she has written over the years.
I love going back and reading one of her books every now and then. Though there have been a lot of great mystery writers over the years, Conan Doyle and she remain for me like the Wayne Gretzky/Roger Federer's of the mystery genre.

Author made a series of significant re-locations. She talks about/advises how to enjoy your new locales (even if u didn't really want to be there, etc.) Just started this one 2 or 3 days ago..

120 books does rather seems like boasting but really I was just trying to say what a chore Moby Dick had been. I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Decided to buy a couple of books today, The Garden of Eden by Hemingway and All Families Are Psychotic by Coupland. I wasn't thinking of it at the time but it's probably not a coincidence I ended up with two straightforward authors after the density of Melville.

For now I'm reading

I just finished Jesse Fink's book on Bon Scott called "The Lost HIghway"

9780857988928.jpg

I do not want to call him a liar, but he states a few opinions and facts and backs up some of his facts with questionable legitimacy sources

The Big one being interviewing Silver Smith--if you are an ACDC fan you know the myth that is Silver Smith and the fact that over a 30 year period she turned down a lot money to do in depth interviews--Apparently right before she died--she gave Fink a lengthy one on one interview. She turned down everyone under the sun from Rolling Stone to Classic Rock and others--and Fink quotes many "letters" that Smith once had but had now been destroyed. Claiming that several thousand letters had been destroyed. There are interviews with a few people who give new insight into Bon's last year--of course they are all dead now--all dying shorting after Fink claimed to have interviewed them. Many of his claims are suspicious.

Probably 95% of what I read is non-fiction, but I wanted to check out a short(er) story in here: A Good Marriage. About a wife unknowingly married to a serial-killing husband. By King's admission, it was inspired by the BTK killer case. I'm sitting up late at night reading it.. very good.

Finally time for this

I got 402 pages in when I was 26, put it down and didn't pick it back up despite always meaning to. I'm really looking forward to this, the first 402 of this are, at east in my memory, as good as anything else I've ever read.

Dostoevsky is great. The House of the Dead, Crime & Punishment, Notes from the Underground.. Three of my all-time favorites.
Dostoevsky's good reading for the bleak, winter months. peace

Didn't actually end up starting Last Exit to Brooklyn but ended starting this one, already halfway through as it's a far easier read then I was actually expecting. It was the basis for Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick.

Probably last book I'll get around to reading this year, finishing the year by reading 110 books. I'll rate them based off GB's ranking used last year at some point before the month is over.

Don't think I'll make it a goal to read 100 next year & instead go back to 52.

Was introduced to some great books in this thread - thanks gents.

R. Crumb: The Complete Record Covers Collection.
Lots of vintage (& unreleased) album covers, & some music-related comic strips. Not a lot of text,.. quick read. A nice coffee table-type book for Crumb fans.

Rubank Intermediate Method: flute or piccolo: a follow up course for individual or like-instrument class instruction. Unlike the elementary book in this series, this one has text to help with hints, playing techniques, etc.
