Alex Chiasson and Bobby Ryan now tied for goals and points

2016/2017 Alex & Bobby - 12 G 12 A = 24 points

I would have traded Ryan before spezza. (I realize that wasn't necessarily the choice) spezza last two years have actually been pretty decently. Especially last year. Thisyear is still not bad but the defence and goaltending on that team is hhhooooorid

Booby Ryan is nice guy but i wish Vegas will pick him up.

Can Ottawa afford Ryan for the next 5 years. He does not bring anything to this team.

Buyout is 18M over 10 years.

Spezza on this team would make everyone better. We would be a championship caliber team with him as our #1 center.

Watched a few Dallas games and Spezza is as I remembered him in his last year in Ottawa - he still has great vision and hands but his wheels are gone. From a stationary position feeding the puck or shooting he is still very good and useful. that makes him a great fit in Dallas where is in an offensive support role.

In his prime Spezza was a force - he had the filthiest hands of any player I've seen. It's no wonder people gushed about him as a minor and junior player. He had an amazing run as our top centre as well - it's such a shame that he and others don't have a Cup ring to show for it. Now, though, he's too slow to be a top centre - he's basically a power play specialist, which is a bit of a luxury to carry on your roster.

As for Bobby Ryan, my guess is that we simply keep him for one more year to see if he can return to some semblance of his old form. We don't have a cap crisis for next season, so we can afford to try. If his career keeps circling the drain, then you buy him out in June 2018, but for now I see no reason to dump the guy. It's not like there's someone else we need to sign and Ryan's salary is getting in the way - not yet anyway...

Yup, there comes a time to re-assess and move on. Whether it is this year or next, better than stringing it out. Even his old form was to show up at camp not in the best of shape, and inconsistent. I don't spend a lot of time twisting fingers over trades but this is one I never liked.

I don't how Ryan fits on this roster at all anymore. I don't like the idea of him playing over anybody on the wing for the playoffs. He just doesn't have that next gear you need to win playoff series and will likely be a momentum killer.

That buyout is not that bad

Our owner is allergic to buyouts though - he would rather be boiled in oil than buy a guy out or retain salary in a trade. Paying a guy to NOT play for you is just not in his DNA. I think Melnyk is going to be very reluctant to sign off on a buyout, and he certainly won't do it this year.

Well it is a **** off no doubt. Imagine having to buy out a monster contract 2 years into lmao. That would be the same day I fire the GM who gave it. Especially when I told him we were on a. Budget and probably had countless meetings about said budget

I like how people **** on Spezza on the regular here when he basically was asked to become a #1C for this team at a very young age and held the position down for close to a decade. In the end, his back failed him and he wasn't the same player anymore, but he provided us with some great moments in his career while establishing himself as an elite player in this league. In his peak, he was one of the top 5 playmakers in the entire league. There weren't too many people better at passing the puck than Spezza was.. he was right behind guys like Thornton and Crosby in that aspect.

I agree on the Ryan part. I have nothing against Bobby personally but sometimes it just doesn't work out with a team. It's not all his fault, injuries have played a major role as well, but he's not what any of us expected him to be. I say give him until the next off-season max before trying to move on from him. He's been here for a while now, we know what he brings to the table, not to mention he's getting older. Sometimes it's best to just move on

Guys...as a Vegas fan as well they are NOT taking Ryan unless there are some pretty big sweeteners attached.

Ottawa will be competing with other teams like LA trying to sell them bad contracts like Brown.

There will be a lot of choices, and they will easily hit the cap floor.

I would take Wideman and walk away happily from this roster.

But he can just cut costs and have already paid employees pitch in more. Fire more janitors and have higher level executives clean up the arena after games. :naughty:
