It's been so long ago that I do not remember much and what I do remember is surely changed by now. Except the Dolphin Beach Hotel! My grandparents went down there from St. Louis almost every summer.

My best memories of that area back in those days were a raging gay bar at Passe-A-Grille and a hot Canadian girl from Brantford, ON who I met at St. Pete Beach.

Her dad played on the Canada National Men's Senior team, so I got to watched Canada seniors vs their Swedish counterparts. It was fun.

It seemed Canada took over Treasure Island to St. Pete Beach during the winter back then.
Ha! Ha! It seems that fully half of Quebec and Ontario winter in Florida, and half of The Prarie Provinces winter in Arizona or Southern California! Weaklings! In MY day, we drove down to Northern Minnesota to warm up! :naughty:

It seems everyone I have met that went to McMaster studied Art History!
You're hanging around with the impractical, intellectual crowd. McMaster specialises in science and medical graduate programmes. Most of the people I know who attended undergraduate there, took practical courses that actually aimed at a specific career. They took science or Pre-Med courses.

My 4 closest neighbors down here are all Canadian, they only live here during the winter.

Sounds about right.

Yeah man! American ice is warmer than Canadian ice!! wait...huh?....

There were Ontario license plates everywhere in St. Pete & St. Pete Beach. They booked entire hotels for 2-3 months at a time with families kind of rotating in and out all winter long.

Like a Mobile Canadian Commune!

I don’t mind Phoenix, but due to the military putting me in a shit hole prior... doesn't seem to bad to me.

Born in a factory and now I'm living in the frozen pizza section.

Seriously, I was born in New Haven, CT and moved to STL when my parents split because my step-dad is from STL. I've lived here for 20+ years and I'll be moving shortly to CO Springs.

I really like Colorado Springs. Lots af great parks. Check out Palmer Park if you want to avoid the touristy areas.

Is that toasted ravioli on top of a pizza in your avatar?

Around now is the best time to be in the Phoenix area, imo.

We will get some rain, the desert will turn green and desert blooms will appear. Quite beautiful, really.

Oh...and...the sickly sweet scent of orange blossoms is right around the corner.

Blues fan from Prince George, BC Canada.

I come to the forums for coverage, as Sportsnet barely covers US based teams that aren't recent cup winners. The GDT are a nice way to follow games when I can't watch at the local pub or I'm on the road for work. Likely picking up NHL center ice this fall so I can watch more than 15 games of the season.

I started cheering for the Blues after watching them lose in 6 to Chicago in the WCQF in 2013-14 playoffs (my buddy and I bet on one series per round of the playoffs annually). I won the bet betting on the Hawks (percentage favourites) and was throughly impressed with the team playing style. I've rarely been that impressed in a losing effort - and I've followed and cheered for the Blues since. Though, I also follow the Canucks closely, being the only BC based NHL team.

Edit: I'm moving to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory for work. I'll be about 200 miles east of the Alaska border.

Born in Providence, RI. Grew up in STL and was introduced to hockey via Sega '91 hockey. I lived outside of Tokyo in Japan for 3 years when I was in the service. After the first year I was pretty homesick. I didn't really appreciate American culture (its pizza, the open road, forks instead of two sticks, a kitchen oven and dishwasher, lawns, and hockey) until I was away from it. Armed Forces Network was a life saver, but to get my America fix, I ended buying the hockey package so I could watch every Blues game. I live in Phoenix now and still buy the hockey package.

Born and raised in St. Louis, but moved to Scottsdale, Arizona 7 months ago.

Absolutely love it here. It's sunny every day, never gloomy so you can always enjoy the scenery. You feel like you're on vacation while still being somewhere a lot more affordable than a place like California. Lots of good surrounding areas that all are unique in their own way with different crowds of people, excellent nightlife, plenty of hiking and outdoor activities, golf, you can swim whenever you want, they have a team in every major sport, etc.

So if you just hate being happy and having fun... then yeah maybe you wouldn't like it here. But I have no complaints. Cold weather has no real benefits so I'm glad we just skip that part.

It just occurred to me that we have many fans located in many places - at least one in Finland (Ranksu), at least one elsewhere in Europe (Robb), several in Canada, several in the mainland U.S., and at least one in Hawaii (me).

How do you fans in cities outside St. Louis keep up with the Blues? I typically try to follow this forum and catch Blues games on FoxSportsGo when I can, but outside of that, I find the coverage on NHL.com and BleedinBlue.com to leave much to be desired...

I’m a Blues fan since 1999. I was born and raised in Switzerland. I started following the Blues because of the good old EA Sports NHL 97/98 games. After trying to play with some different teams I stayed with the Blues as my favorite team, for some reason. After that, I started following the Blues more and more in reality too.

I try to watch most of the games the next day, because the common 7:00 pm central time game start time means 02:00 am in my time zone. I visit this forum, the bluesnewsforum and the STL Today forum on a daily basis to get Blues news and to read what other people think about the Blues.

Hi Harri, welcome to our forum. I, too frequent Blues News Forum, and used to post some on STL Today forum. But, recently, that latter forum has blocked me from even reaching that website, saying it is "not in the receiving area". I am in The Netherlands. Soon, I'll be taking a trip to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany. Then, I will know if all areas besides USA and Canada (and, possibly Mexico, are blocked. Can you still access that site right now, from Switzerland? In any case, I don't feel that it is much of a tragedy, as that site normally has a lot of trolling. And the informational posts from beat writers are getting fewer and far between. THIS forum is the best I've found.

I'm from St. Louis, born and raised. But now I live in Rhode Island (both my wife and I found jobs here). I'm trying to raise my daughter to be a Blues fan, but I'm in Bruins country so who knows.

@Harri McBain , hey can you exlain where that 'Harri' is coming from? :) Hit me on The eye, 'cus its in Finland Finnish men first name.

That’s correct, Ranksu. Almost 20 years ago, a coworker started to use Harri as a nickname for me. A few weeks later every other coworker did as well. Harri Rovanperä was a WRC driver for Peugeot during that time and I was a big Peugeot fan. When I wrote this nickname the first time I decided to spell it like the Finnish version of this name.

Thanks Robb. Yes we talked on the STL Today forum a few months ago. I really liked that place. Some very good posters and many posts per day. But as you already mentioned much trolling too.

Since the new GDPR regulation by the EU, that site seems to not work anymore from Europe including Switzerland. I sent a mail to the admins, but not much happened. During the first few days the whole site was down. At the moment it is online again, but the forum still doesn’t work at all. I’m glad it’s the only north American website I use, which doesn’t work correctly since that new regulation. HFBoards had no trouble regarding the new GDPR regulation, for example.
