It would not surprise me to see them try to move Krug again in the offseason with the Cap significantly increasing and then Keeping Peru as a sheltered bottom Pairing/7th d-man PP specialist.

I myself want them both gone tho.
except everyone else horribly sucks at the point on the PP

Assuming he hits that and stays an RFA, how do we get that not nothing out of him when he's worthless? It's like saving all the lint in your pocket in a big ball of lint, because you don't want to throw it away for nothing, but also nobody wants a worthless ball of Perunovich..I mean, lint.
You have made your mind up, but there is a very reasonable opinion that he isn't worthless.

I'd be very content with him as a league minimum #6 D man who QBs one of our PP units in a world where we didn't have to shelter Krug. I believe that moving Krug is a priority for Army and we know with certainty that an attempt was already made to move him last summer. Even if we have Krug still, I'm perfectly fine with using Perunovich as a depth D man.

There is zero benefit to him walking as a UFA and no downside to playing him in these meaningless games down the stretch.

Consistency.
Leading by example.

Indeed.
I don't like Scandella scratched in favour of Perunovich. I might be reading too much into it, but I am starting to think that the organisation is determined to make him a permanent roster player. Like they are doubling down.
Why would we give playing time to a guy with no future here after less than 20 games over a guy who we are trying to see can prove himself and in a season where we are not competing for anything?

If we're going to keep Perunovich because of his awesome PP skills, I'd rather just stick him up at forward and have a defenseman who can play defense, who doesn't need to be heavily sheltered, in his defensive spot. It's not even like when Peru is on the power play, he's doing even 50% of what a Cale Makar does. He's "great" at passing the puck around, but he very infrequently shoots and he doesn't have a dangerous shot at all. He's otherwise lousy defensively, and saying "we can shelter him" underscores that. The idea of playing a defenseman 11-12 minutes a game trying to protect him from being treated like a turnstile in his own zone for the 4-5 minutes he might spend on the PP, might be great there, is dumb.

I'm sure in some reinvention of playing roles for a team there's a spot for him - not quite a rover, but something where "when we need to break out on offense he's back with the defense, when the team needs to play defense a forward drops down to do that and he's up front for a quick breakout with his speed - but in 2024, there's not a good position for him.

I like Peru. I think he's one of the few D that can actually shake an aggressive forecheck. He has the patience and shiftiness with the puck to force guys to back away and in doing so creates space for us to transition the puck up the ice smoothly. Yes, he gets caught occasionally, because he's not the best skater, and yes, he flubs the puck occasionally, b/c so does everyone who has it on their stick enough. But compared to Colton, "Slam the puck off the glass the minute anyone gets within a stick length," Parayko, it's actually kinda refreshing to see a defenseman with the skills and confidence to simply force a forechecker to back off.

Peru in the Vince Dunn role (PP1 QB alongside sheltered 3rd pairing minutes with an emphasis on maximizing offensive zone matchups) on a league minimum (or close to it) contract is a fairly valuable player. The issue, as always, is Krug, b/c Krug is Peru but paid 6.5x.
