While its not a blockbuster its a move from a position of strength. The Hawks defense has begun to take a youth movement and in order to give them all enough playing time something had to give. While it may have been beneficial to keep a 7th defenseman in case of injury or fatigue it made just a little more sense to free up some money and get a player who can be a 2nd line LW for this year at least.
