Home of the 2005 Memorial Cup
I was watching the NHL series and they were showing classic series and it was LA vs Leafs in 1993...wow what a series... i love watching old classics like that!

What was the best playoff series of the 1980's?
1990's?
2000's?
And ever?

I was too young to really understand hockey in the 1980's, but in the 1990's i'd have to say LA over the leafs in 7 in 1993... If I were a Leafs fan I would have died of a broken heart after watching Gretz work his magic (thanks bob mackenzie for motivating gretz by saying he was skating as if he had a piano on his back). Watching the show today was great, seeing the pandimonium in the old ML Gardens.

As for 2000's I really enjoyed watching the Flames/Vancouver series in 2003-2004 playoffs first round.

Ever, I couldn't answer that, thats why i'm asking... maybe the NYR over Vancouver in game 7 or the LA/Toronto???

Thoughts everyone?

Any NYI/NYR series and any Edmonton/Calgary series.

Passion unmatched.

1990's?

LA/Leafs, 1993
Devils/NYR, 1994
Avs/Wings
(and here's a darkhorse: Stars over Oilers, '91)

2000's?
Devils/Avs, '01 was a very solid seven-game series.

And ever?
Oilers/Flyers, '87 immediately comes to mind. Wouldn't venture a guess of anything before my time.

:)

The Oil handing the Habs the 3 zip spanking in 81 comes to my mind, especially after Gretzky & Co. made sevigny choke on his "Lafleur putting Gretzky in his pocket" speech. :)

For quality of the series, Edmonton / Calgary in 1991 was intense.. Habs/Nords in 82?? was tremendous.. those two teams hated each other and both deserved to win that showdown..

Those Habs / Bruins series of yesteryear used to give me fits. It seemed like Ray Bourque used to wind up from the point and miss the net about 30 times per game and the B's would always end up on the losing end..

Wow, the memory bank was just re-opened with some of the series cited above. Great memeories. :handclap:

How could I forget Nordiques/Canadiens, '82? Yikes, a heated series, to be kind!

Lasting memory of Devils/Sabres '94 was that goals were as common as $2 bills. A young Brodeur and Hasek standing on their heads throughout.

I tend to blur the Pens/Caps series of the 90s as they seemingly played each other so many times. They were entertaining series though (especially for Pens fans, I'd imagine). The quality of NHL playoff hockey when Mario and the Pens ruled the hockey world in the early 90s was truly outstanding and thoroughly entertaining. Watching the best player in the world at the top of his game was priceless.

Isles/Leafs '02 was intriguing because it really was old time hockey. I loved every minute of it.

Devils/Rangers is always my first pick when threads like this pop up. Good call on the devils/sabres series of the same year, game 6 and haseks 70 saves made that one a classic.

the Islanders run in 93 is usually overlooked in my opinion. Pulled off a huge upset over the mighty penguins after winning a very intense series over the caps.

Vanbriesbrouck's eastern conference run to get florida to the finals is high on my list.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the Oilers fans on this one

1991 Flames/Oilers was incredible, particularly for a first round series...you had the 2 teams that had represented the West in the finals the previous 8 seasons going at it...hard. pity the Oilers tank was getting close to E after that one

Yea that was a heart breaker for me thing just didn't go our way that series when we needed em to. Everyone in eastern canada was parading around with signs that said Maple Leafs vs Canadiens 1993 Stanley cup finals. The the next year people were saying the same thing about the Maple Leafs and Rangers. Fast forward to 2002 when we we could have faced the red wings. Everytime we get so close it's like if we went to the finals we'd face another original 6 team or if we get close you know the chances of an original 6 team winning the cup is good. :)
