More likely that the GM/Coach--who have given him way more than enough chances to get his act together and put the tiniest bit of effort in--told him that they've had enough and they're waiving him with the intention of sending him to Hershey. (Bonus points if the GM miraculously managed to find a trade partner first but Kuzy--who has a 10-team no trade list--rejected the trade and *then* he was told he was being sent to Hershey.) He can either report to Hershey, in which case he'd immediately get scratched because they wouldn't want him poisoning that successful locker room, or not report at all, and then have his contract terminated. (If that last part is how it works?)

It's not even about the cap savings or whatever. He's untradeable. Unplayable. A detriment to the team in every possible way. And, at this point, just getting him off the ice and out of the locker room is a major addition through subtraction.

I'm out of the loop. What's all this hostility about?

He probably got a longer rope than usual because of Ovi.

No, but now I must watch...
It’s a good show re writing history in a what if scenario of the Russians landing on the moon before the Americans leading to a bigger space race. I’m sure you can guess the name of the first cosmonaut to land on the moon lol

He’s got to be in the running if not the clubhouse leader for biggest disappointment in the league. He’s openly said he doesn’t want to be MVP because you have to work too hard and that was annoying but acceptable when he was still doing his magic act on the ice but he’s the worst defensive forward in the NHL, his offense doesn’t exist any more, and you get more effort from guys playing in the 11:00 game in a C League when they’re four beers deep on the bench and there’s 8:00 minutes left in the 3rd period down 5-1.

He’s also had a terrible impact on the some of the younger players, and more specifically the young Russians like getting in trouble with Samsonov and telling Alexeyev he was stupid to re-sign with Washington. He’s pouted about wanting to be traded and was openly disappointed that Orlov was traded last year and he wasn’t but instead of busting his ass off to make it easier for the team to trade him he’s been a muppet on the ice. He complained about Laviolette and his coaching style and play scheme and then celebrated Carberry’s hire but proceeded to take a dump in his pants the moment the season started.

And none of this is new but he’s really fallen off a cliff the last two seasons and now there are no more excuses. New coach, new scheme, getting benched, getting demoted, getting scratched — none of it has made a difference. The reality appears to be that he just sucks and doesn’t care and he’s a glaring net negative for a franchise trying to transition to a new era. Kuznetsov was one of my favorite players and without him Washington doesn’t win in 2018 but he’s embarrassing himself and the organization every time he puts on their jersey and we’re over it.

So what can Washington do now - terminate his contract and send him home? Maybe someone in the K wants him.
