Nnnnnnnoooooooo. He had so much potential. He tussled so hard each and every shift. Was a great 4th liner for us. I always felt he was a smidge away from bursting productively.

I'm guessing this was at Meyers' request. He clearly wants an opportunity to play in the NHL, and the acquisitions of Trenin and Duhaime yesterday not only pushed him way down the depth chart, but given that they were both big bodied bruisers it was also a signal about what type of player the Avs were looking for, and Meyers isn't that. I'll bet he and his agent saw the writing on the wall and asked CMac to put his name out there to see if anybody was interested.
The games played threshold had him in limbo, Avs didn't want to call him up and possibly lose him to waivers for nothing, so they at least got something for him to avoid that.

He was an amazing NCAA player, but when you're dealing with the pros, you get a reduced chance to showcase your strengths. Meyers definitely is a player who needs to be in the top 6 to be productive, but he might not be as talented to stay there long-term.
