Ice Hockey Australia President Don Rurak announced, from the International Ice Hockey Federation in Moscow, that Australia has secured the 2008 Division II World Championships, which will take place in Newcastle, New South Wales. “This is a very significant event for us, with 2008 being our hockey Centennialâ€, said Rurak. “Winning this Division would send us up to Division I where you have an opportunity to qualify for the Olympicsâ€, he said.

The Championship will take place April 7 to 13 at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium

I might be returning to Australia for a holiday in time for that tournament, well I hope I will be.

I think next year's competitors will be:
Australia
Belgium
Bulgaria
Croatia
DPR Korea
Iceland
Israel
Korea
Mexico
Serbia
Spain
Turkey

DPR Korea got relegated to Div. III because they withdrew. Ireland will be in Div. II next year along with New Zealand though. (Both promoted from Div. III this year)

I believe Turkey got relegated back down to Div. III as well.
