ATD2018 - Draft Thread 1

[BenchBrawl]

The draft will last 25 rounds. You must draft 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, 12 forwards, a coach and 4 extra picks.

1) The clock starts Monday, January 15th at noon (EST).

2). The time windows will be tight but reasonable.
24 hour clock for round 1
then 12 hour clock for round 2
then 10 hour clock for rounds 3-6,
then 8 hour clock for rounds 7-14,
then 6 hour clock for rounds 15-20,
then 4 hour clock for rounds 21-25

One hour time window deduction for each skipped pick (two hour deduction for missing a 12 hour clock - leave a list), with a minimum 4 hour clock guaranteed regardless of deductions.

3). Trading rules:

You cannot trade drafted players during the draft.You can only trade players once the draft is completed.
Trading is to be reasonably fair and balanced and lopsided trades will need to be re-worked or dropped. This is at the discretion of the trade committee.
Each team may make up to 8 trades.
A submitted trade counts towards the maximum, even if it is vetoed (exception - first time GMs). Don't submit lopsided trades.
No more than 4 assets per team may be traded at a time.
Swapping all positions before the draft doesn't count as a "trade" for the purposes of the above rules.
Trading while on the clock is allowed. However, using your entire clock to openly shop a pick annoys your fellow GMs, so do it sparingly. If GMs abuse trading on the clock, a rule could be added against it

4). ADD/DROPS - At the conclusion of the draft, there will be a 7 day period for add/drops. All add/drops must be 1-for-1. Dropped players will NOT be eligible to be added by other teams.

5). At the conclusion of the draft, there will be a time period (to be determined) for divisional lineup assassinations.

6). Regular season rankings MUST BE VOTED ON by at least one GM (if the team is co-GM'd) per team. The penalty if not done is a potential lowering in the standings because each GM will rank his own team first. Co-GMs who both vote each get half a vote for the regular season rankings in their own division. Seedings will be hidden and the playoff matchups will be posted and tabulated by a 3rd party.

7). The playoffs will work according to the following format:
Every division will have a divisional assassination thread, then the Top-2 teams of each division will make the playoffs.

Similar format will be in place for the 9 teams who fail to make the playoffs (bragging rights are on the line)

8). NO MENTIONING UNDRAFTED PLAYERS!!!

9). PM the next team after you have made your pick. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL!

We just got the draft order today. To start the clock on Monday would be much sooner than usual (we should have 4-5 days before the CLOCK marches on).

Let's start the clock THURSDAY at NOON.

That gives everyone plenty of time to think about draft strategy given draft order, and of course those who have early picks can pick in the meantime if they are ready, but if they ain't ready, it would be wrong to start the clock so quickly when some of us go away on weekends. A 3-day ski trip this weekend would **** up someone on the clock early.

Gordie Howe, RW,

Nicknamed "Mr Hockey" for his all-around excellence and his remarkable career, Howe was a dominant scorer at his peak, leading the league by large margins on several occasions in the 1950s. He also maintained an extremely high level of play into his 40s, finishing top 5 in league scoring for 20 consecutive years. He won the Stanley Cup four times, led in NHL playoff scoring 5 times, and won six Hart Trophies as the Most Valuable Player.

Howe's skillset was the complete package

• A fluid, fast, and powerful skater. (His skating was actually good enough that he filled in at the defence position when needed, and in the 1960s he was widely expected to move back to become a defenceman at some point to extend his career.)
• Excellent puck control and stickhandling skills
• An all-time great goal scorer, he led the league in regular season goals scored 5 times and in playoff goals scored 3 times. Held the all-time record for goals scored for almost 3 decades.
• Hardest wrist shot of his time
• One of the great playmakers from the wing, he led the league in assists 3 times. No other winger has done it more.
• Very strong defensively and played a complete game.
• An intimidating physical presence who needed no protection from anyone.
• Led a very successful Detroit power play, playing either on the right wing or at the point.
• Was among the top penalty killers of his era, a rarity among star players at the time.
• Two healthy knees, and virtually indestructible.
