It should also be noted that both Dit Clapper and Ebbie Goodfellow played seasons at forward, which very likely is where their best vs.X years came from. As both of these guys are playing D here, their scores aren't really relevant.

I have very little time this week, so might as well address the biggest strength of my opponent, which is his top scoring line of Phillips - Lemieux - Cook.
(Glenn Hall is also a big strength for NS, but that's basically a wash with Sawchuk at the other end).

I think Chicago is well suited to handle Nova Scotia's dangerous top line, and that starts with their shut down pairing of Harvey - Flaman. Harvey is elite defensively and Flaman was one of the best stay at home Dmen of his time. Joe Pelletier called him the Scott Stevens of his day. Flaman obviously wasn't as good as Stevens, but he was a great defensive player, very physical, and rarely lost a fight. This pairing reminds me a bit of the Harvey - Butch Bouchard pair, and should be one of the best shut-down pairings in the draft.

From TDMM's bio:
1958 Coach's poll (the only such poll we have for the Original 6 period):
  • Doug Harvey won for "best defensive defenseman." Flaman and Pronovost are the only other two defensemen with votes.
  • Flaman finished 1st for "best fighter."

Up front, Chicago has a great shutdown line of Leswick - Madden - Nevin that will get extra minutes this series.

While the Madden line is the preferred matchup, Chicago is also comfortable having the Moore - Ullman - Lafleur line go power vs. power if needed. Ullman and Moore are both strong two-way players, and there's plenty of fire power between the 3 of them to be a dangerous threat going the other way. The threat of quick transition from Harvey to Lafleur would force any opponent to be extra careful, making it more difficult for the D to support the offense.
