ATD#7 MINOR LEAGUE DRAFT

Eight teams will make the playoffs and partake in a three-round league championship. As well, there will be an all-star team of 1LW, 1RW, 1C, 2D, 1G voted on after the regular season as well as the six-man Call-up Team of players who don't belong in the minors, promoted to the top league. It's very possible that one team can win the championship without any all-star or call-up quality players.

G.M.s will have to decide when to draft a player deserving of all-time recognition and when to draft players who fit a role on a balanced championship team. It's an open question whether it's better for a minor league team to select the best players available (in the interest of scouting for the parent club/organization) or the best performing team now (limited upside, line chemistry, clearly minor leaguers).

Draft has begun!. 7:19 p.m. eastern time Friday.

Trading begins now.

The draft will last 24 rounds. You must draft 3 goalies, 7 defensemen, 13 forwards and a coach.

Trading is allowed. Trades must be equal in numbers, 2 picks for 2 picks, 1 player and a pick for 2 picks, and so on. Really lopsided trades can be vetoed.

The time limit is now 12 hours for your double picks.
Make the picks together: no splitting of the time clock. As soon as any pick is made the time window shifts to the next team, even if a pick is left to be made, it could be made up as a skipped pick.
Add a description, some stats or a link to your posted pick.
You must PM the next GM after your selection.

Any player from any league or era are eligible as long as they were not drafted in the ATD#7 click here and use control-f to check. As soon as a pick is posted, the next team's clock will begin even if an ineligible player is chosen: the pick will simply be made up as soon as possible.

Player selection should be based on what they have done, and not what they will do in the future, though it's understood that as a minor league team there is some projection involved, especially with players whose careers were cut short by injury.

Absolutely no dropping of players: once drafted they are drafted, but players could be traded if team needs change. At the end of the draft a team could pick up an undrafted UFA and simply discard a draft pick.

I have a feeling Murph and GBC are going to take the player I have in mind.

Note: I will gladly take a co-GM if anyone else wants to join up

This is going to be weird. First draft ever without BM. Hope you enjoy the repose, boss.

Anyways, good luck to all GMs. cottonking, welcome to the fraternity. (No, not that kind of fraternity, although the beer does flow like water at the Estevan Strippers annual Spring Bust tournament). Hopefully the GM tandems will enable this to be a quick-moving draft, and we can avoid the board crashing on draft day and free agent moving day.

I have a notion that this may turn out to be wishful thinking.

I forgot about the tendency of HFBoards to crash during heavy usage times.

Fortunately it'll be the evening, and problems shouldn't be for too long if at all.

Teams could send me their picks at [email protected] if they really want or a shortlist beforehand via PM here.

Actually, I really love the position I am in, making two picks in a rwo. We'll see how MXD and I will take advantage of this. Both of us also have heavy schedule, so it may help us it that matter.

Just to let everyone know, I'm taking charge of the team until July the 5 and from July the 6 to the end of the draft, MXD will make the picks. MXD is actually out of town, and I'll be working outside my province from July 6.

Good Luck everyone!

Don't hesitate to get the beer flowing in the Strippers War Room ... especially right before you make those selections. Nothing will make your draft go smoother than Andreas Lilja in the 3rd round ...

With the first pick in the farm draft, the Estevan Strippers are pleased to select a steady, smart and fearless defenceman who won two Stanley Cups with Philly's Broad Street Bullies, and spent two years playing his junior in Estevan:

D Joe Watson
...a salt-of-the-earth player who had to work harder than most to earn his spot at the top of the hockey world. He was gifted in no aspects of his game, save his sense of team spirit and his commitment to take the sum of his average parts and raise them into a greater whole... In Philly, he found his spiritual centre as a charter member of the Flyers who added stability to his club's new blueline corps. Over the years that followed, he became a defensive workhorse who helped keep his team respectable until their Stanley Cup pieces began to fall into place during the early 1970s... became a reliable rearguard who employed a steady positional style of play, highlighted by a daring streak as a fearless shot blocker.

C Barry Pederson
238 goals, 654 pts in 701 games. NHL all-star games (1983, 1984).

Almost all of his 52 pts in 34 playoff games comes in two superb postseasons for the Bruins, in '82 losing a 4-3 game 7 to the Nordiques in the second round and in '83 his best with 14 goals, 32 points in 17 games, only to be stopped by the dynasty Islanders in six games in the conference finals. Just over a year later a tumor would hamper what looked like a HHOF career in the making. Still went on to three 70+ point seasons afterwards.

After watching the pick-every-five-minutes draft last night, the pace here has left something to be desired ...
it's summertime!

i expect a few g.m.s every round to make up their picks at their convenience, especially into sunny weekends of outdoor fun

but yeah,... the nhl entry draft moves at a fast clip: a couple of kids of pretty good NHLers went in the first round, the fathers having had careers well worth recognizing (i won't say their names as they're on our team's long list)

Dunlops select goaltender Gerry McNeil

Quote:
He was summoned to the Montreal Canadiens full-time in 1950-51 when Bill Durnan retired, playing every minute of every game in his rookie season. McNeil backstopped the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup finals against Toronto in 1951 and Detroit in 1952, but it wasn't until the 1952-53 season that he was able to lead the Canadiens to his own Stanley Cup. That same season, he was selected to the NHL's Second All-Star Team.

The Springfield Ice-O-Topes are proud to select one of the best Soviet blueliner of the 70's:

Yuri Liapkin

Yuri Liapkin had a reputation of one of the strongest and most reliable Soviet blueliners in the 1970's. A crafty stick handler and puck carrier, Liapkin had a relatively soft puck-moving style and, unlike many of his defense teammates, wasn't very impressive speed wise. His strongest parts were his amazing tactical sense of the game and mastery of hockey improvisation. Liapkin was a high scoring defenseman known for his accurate shooting and contribution into his team attacks.

Yuri Liapkin was the highest scoring defense player among the blueliners of both teams. Overall, he was one of the best defensemen on the Team USSR 1972 roster.

With their first pick, the Omaha Ice Breakers are proud to select left winger Mike McPhee from Sydney, Nova Scotia.

A former Engineer, Voyageur, Habitant, North Star and Star, McPhee is a steadfast defensive forward cut from the same mold as Canadiens teammates Bob Gainey and Guy Carbonneau. A strong physical presence with plus size, McPhee was no slouch offensively either, scoring 20 goals 4 times and totaling 200 in his career.

McPhee won the Stanley Cup with Montreal (1986), reached the finals a second time (1989), was a member of one Wales Conference All-Star team (1989) and was a three-time winner of the Jacques Beauchamp award, as Canadiens team unsung hero, as voted by his teammates.

When Omaha GM cottonking hands McPhee his ceremonial photo-op jersey, the number 35 and the captain’s “C” are both already stitched on … clearly, the Ice Breakers got their man.
