Here's the breakdown of this series:

1st Line- Superstar Captain Clarke v Superstar Captain Cook- close
Next best Forward- Forsberg v Bathgate- advantage Forsberg (with additional playoff edge)
LWs S. Abel v Noble- advantage Abel, not close.
First line advantage, Winnipeg

2nd line- LW Kariya v Jiri Holik- advantage Kariya, not close
C Lalonde v Stastny- advantage Lalonde- but closer than one might think (both players made NHL Centenary top-100)
RW Martinec v G. Anderson- moderate advantage Martinec
Second Line moderate advantage- Montreal. Montreal has talent edge, but chemistry narrows the gap somewhat.

3rd line- LW Northcott v Propp- advantage Northcott, not close
C Colville v Carbonneau- advantage Colville. Two Hall of Famers, Carbonneau has elite defense but won't pitch in much offensively. Colville has very good defense and WILL pitch in offensively
Ward v Finnigan- close
Third Line advantage, Winnipeg. Talent is superior, and chemistry widens the gap even more. This is the biggest edge possessed by either team this series.

4th line- I'm calling this close. Montreal might have a talent edge... but their line doesn't look too effective in the defensive zone. To use them effectively, Montreal would have to give their no. 1 line additional D-zone starts, muting their 1st line offense even more.

1st D pairing- close. Shore's better than Robinson, Stuart's more better than D. Hatcher... but it's the top-billing partner that matters more.

2nd D pairing- Quackenbush>Mantha, Simpson>Boon
Second pairing advantage, Winnipeg. This is the 2nd biggest edge possessed by either team.

3rd D pairing- close. Both pairings have Special Teams parts that help.

Goaltending- close. Vezina has a longer resume, Gardiner has the playoff cred. I don't see this as difference-making, either way.

Coaching- Shero is good. Lester Patrick is better. Edge goes to Winnipeg here.
