Islanders are running a 105.0 PDO.

2nd place in this playoffs is 102.4. The highest any team has had in the playoffs in over 13 years is 104.0.

You can sustainably be a bit above 100 with team construction, but not remotely close to that, especially for a team like the Islanders. Saying the Islanders have been lucky isn't downplaying their success. It's just fact.

So the perfect storm. A combination of lucky goaltending and lucky goal scoring. OK.

Matty Barzal and the Checkers.

This is what building a deep blue collar hard woking team, not a top heavy free skating team looks and performs like in the playoffs.

Solid balanced scoring throughout all lines & not top heavy wishful thinking, and built on a solid defensive structure and system from the goalie out.

Lou Lam seems to have assembled the right formula to drive his teams record to 10-3.

Well we were a couple of years under Burns and Quinn but they eventually ran into teams that were luckier. The luckiest team in the league usually wins the SC.
The Leafs are like the errant baker who is making a chocolate cake. He has the sexy ingredient, the chocolate, but has forgotten about those other boring ingredients like flour and stuff. :dunce:

Backup goes in and they do not miss a beat. All luck.

The NYIs are not spreadsheet analytic darlings, so it has to be all luck, otherwise there is no other way to explain the results. :)

Problem being there are no columns in that spreadsheet for hardwork, or compete level, or balanced attack offense, nor structured defense first system to accurately measure Will which is >> Skill.

Their expected x/GF & x/GA must be flashing red displaying compute error, which suggests actual goals and what is happening doesn't seem to jiving with on ice results, therefore x/Series results = all luck.

x/Series results show 1 win away from 3rd round and final 4.
