I don't think this is particularly likely as scenarios go, but just because nothing has been whispered in the paper or on the news probably means little at this point because our local media is garbage. It would leak from NY or Ontario if it happens.

Right - and the silence from there is what I believe is telling. Not even a whisper of a rumor from anyone, not even the guys who aren't Friedman or McKenzie. You'd think at least Dreger, who is essentially an NHL spokesman at this point, would have dropped a "Hearing that..." if there was anything this big in the hopper, particularly on a timeline as short as rumored.

You’re new here. Any way you can confirm your source confidentially with a Mod?
Maybe, but I won't - patience glasshoppa.

It's more than likely just more fodder in this saga anyway. I heard about it around the same time that SR said there was a new owner and told myself I'd just keep quiet - Doan know what got into me yesterday morning.

Three losses in a row will do that to you.

I've heard your rumor from someone I know who knows someone who is close to the team as well. Until things are confirmed, signed and shovels hit the dirt, nothing is official. Nonetheless, your insight is greatly appreciated.

Hopefully, where there is smoke there is fire, but it would not surprise me to see a new owner. Better economy and the price of sport teams are skyrocketing,a smart businessman could turn this around fast with our upcoming talent. For years most of our players were chopped liver and we changed that. Now it is time to change our chopped liver ownership.

There is probably a thread about this on the main board, but I don't go there so this seems like the appropriate place.

Team USA for the Olympics has not been announced, but it is believed that former NHLers will fill some of the roster spots. Names mentioned in this article are Brian Gionta, Tom Gilbert, Marc Stuart, Ryan Malone, Jim Slater and Matt Gilroy.

A U.S. Hockey Team With an Unfamiliar Look

Don't know if this is the right move. I'd prefer to see collegians and the like vs old guys that are hanging on in European leagues.

My rumors had nothing to do with the sric. Mine came from an agent, not the team or a player.

I’d love to see the tribe get involved, though.

Also, Mosby, I believe municipalities can have ownership in a team, but it’s gotta be 100%. I think the packers are owned by green bay as a whole. Could be wrong.

Packers are essentially a publicly traded company with shareholders, who can purchase a stake in the team (more symbolic than anything, as they have a BOG appointed to make team financial decisions).

I believe the major sports leagues now have rules against publicly owned franchises, with the exception being the Packers.

Well thanks CC that certainly clears that up. I was ignorant to the topic, but I do remember reading or watching something on the packers that had them owned by the public.

The Packers' situation is essentially grandfathered in by the NFL, partially because Green Bay is the smallest market in the league and the arrangement helps them stay viable.

As for Glendale attempting to buy the Coyotes, the only purchase offer I know of that was made to buy the team outside of the usual suspects of Ice Edge, Jamison, Reinsdorf, et al., was one offered by the Tohono O'odham tribe, and part of that was tied into wrangling concessions for their Westgate casino as a quid pro quo from the city in exchange for bailing them out of the hockey ownership quandary. I don't think the City itself ever considered making an offer on their own.
