happy for sens fans that Karlsson wasn't dealt

still doesn't rule him out being traded in the offseason though

Pacific division is going to be interesting to watch the next 2 months. Good handful of teams that have wildcard chances.

Depending on how it all shapes out the Pacific division could have some intense playoff games.

Yzerman is a master.

The only thing is, are there too many cooks in the kitchen.
It's great to bring in talent.
But you also moved out Namestnikov, who had great chemistry with these guys.
And now you bring in a big-minute D and someone has to sit and someone else has to accept a smaller role.

These things don't always go as planned

Eric f***ing Staal.
This is the guy I wanted last year instead of Nielsen.
He's working on 3 goals and 2 assists so far tonight.
He's now at 33-31-64 with like 20 games to go. On pace for 40-40-80.
Last year he went 28-37-65.

What a remarkable turnaround.
He hasn't had numbers like this since 2010-11.

I had no idea he could turn it around this much, though.
I figured he could be a big 2 or 3C and score 20G and 40Pts and do it cheap after a few disastrous years.

He's playing for a 3 year, $3.5M deal. Can you imagine?
We signed Nielsen to what now?
We signed Helm to what now?
Abdelkader?

Pens are getting slaughtered by the Bruins. Goaltending looking like a huge issue for them as long as Murray is injured

Every time I turn around another Tampa player steps up ...
Anthony Cirelli, 72nd overall in 2015, joins the Lightning for his first game.
1G 1A 2 points.

His prospects don't often make Pronman's lists, but who cares?
Howden and Hajek helped them get McDonough.
And from that draft they still have
Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk - two guys as good as any wings prospect.

And other decent prospects like Connor Ingram and Otto Somppi.

They still have all of last year's prospects, including Foote, Volkov and Lipanov.
They've got a bunch of young guys in Syracuse and Yzerman seems able to find pint-sized UFA forwards to step up and score, whenever the hell he wants.

There’s no doubt that Tampa drafts well. Cirelli is a hell of a player. Wish we could draft like them

A lot easier when you have Hedman, Stamkos and Kucherov. No one is playing over their head there. Same happened on the Wings when Hudler, Filppula, Samuelsson, Lebda, Cleary, Franzen etc etc looked awesome.

Yeah, except Hudler and Flip looked even better when they left.
Sammy, too, for that matter.

I think many teams would fully admit that they didn't think Staal would be this good again. I have to admit I didn't think he would be this year or last.

I keep forgetting that Nathan MacKinnon is only 22. It feels like he's been in the league a long time. He's going beast mode this season for sure.

so far thru two periods tonight

hall extends point streak to 26 games tying Kane's streak in 2015-2016 for longest since Lemieux's 28 game streak in 1996

Laine has two goals - his third consecutive 2 goal game, and 17 points in the last 9 games

Scheifele injured again - collar bone maybe?

Somehow Eric Staal has 35 goals

I liked him as a buy-low candidate.
He was too young to be done.

He was pretty set on going to Minnesota. The local papers were printing stories about him like it was a done deal before free agency even hit.

I'm sure everyone has their price tag, but Staal wouldn't do a discount to join the floundering Wings. If this team wants to lure in the good buy low guys, they need to at least be in the playoff picture again. And get a respectable coach.
