Stajan was 47 percent in the dot last year. Add to that his 17 points, and mediocre underlying numbers, Stajan is fast approaching cap dump/buyout/waiver wire material.

No one would claim him on waivers, that is certain.

A cap dump means we take bad salary back, not much to gain there.

A buy out next year means that his cap hit is spread over 2 years, and the Flames may well need the space more in the second year.

Plus, while he's not very good, he's functional in many ways Mason Raymond is not.

To expect good stats from a guy playing 4C, regularly with less than ideal wingers is absurd.

Renaud Lavoie on the Fan960 said yesterday the Flames could still be looking at a Bishop for Elliot+ trade. Would have to get rid of someone to fit it under the cap.

I don't believe it though. Pretty sure the Flames had a deal in place for Bishop and his contract demands is what scared Tre' away.

I'd be happier to take a run at Bishop in the off-season. We might be in a better negotiating position at that point. And it gives us a year to see to Gillies is the future. In which case, we could just sign Elliot to a couple year extension.

It would certainly be an odd tranaction and it might be because I am not a fan of Lavoie at all, but one that is pretty hard to believe.

I could have seen it if it had been done on the draft weekend but with Elliott tweeting about how excited he is to be part of the organization, the change in his mask and listening to Treliving talk about him it doesn't seem like a case of them flipping him that quick.

I can certainly see the interest from TB's side as Elliott would be a great fit for them as a tandem with Vasilevsky. Perhaps that is where he is getting his rumour from, TB still pushing it and judging Calgary's interest.

That argument might hold water if he wasn't getting paid over 3 million.

By your logic because Engelland makes almost 3 million, and is a 5/6 defenceman he is not an NHL caliber player anymore because he is overpaid.

Stajan and Engelland get a bad rap because they are overpaid for what they are, but they are still NHL players no doubt about it.

What sick is Stajan getting pay 3M for playing 4th line and getting praised/supported...

He is blocking younger player and cost the team money to upgrade somewhere else. He is a negative player period.

So exactly which player is Stajan blocking? What AHL centers do we have in the system that can't make the team now because of who is at the 4th line?

While Stajan is hardly living up to his contract, he's still an NHL level player.

He's not a negative player, period. In your opinion he may be, in reality he isn't. If he was, he would have been bought out like Raymond.

Wotherspoon would be in the NHL if he wasn't taking up that 4th line C spot.

Stajan? Sure, although he takes a billion penalties and is no better than the average 4C. Engelland? No, to the point I'm less concerned about the gift Treliving gave him than the very real chance he may be #6/7 on the depth chart. Not kidding.
