COYOTES ORGANIZATIONAL DEPTH CHART

Player (shoots left) is 31 years old ... his contract has a $2,083,000 AAV ... he's under contract for 2016-17, but the italics mean the contract may slide a year, based on number of pro games played. He's also currently under contract for 2017-18. His contract status for the 2018-19 season is that of UFA, so his contact expires summer 2018.

I believe Luke Schenn is signed through next year.

And Justin Peters is a UFA after this year.

Thanks again ck for taking on this project. I'll pin this thread. Feel free to grab what you need from my depth chart thread and I'll scrap it later on.

Hadnt realised OEL becomes UFA in 2020, the same year a lot of young talented guys become RFA - Dvorak, Strome, Chychrun, Crouse and Fischer, MacInnis, Perlini too. Tough year.

I guess Chayka figures that's a problem to be solved later if he's successful in 2017-2019. And if he's not successful, it's someone else's problem.

Whoops ... maybe the chart isn't as intuitive as I thought it was.

Martin Hanzal / 28 / 3.100 / 2017 / UFA

This means ...

Martin Hanzal is 28, or, rather, approximately 28, I don't have a macro that automatically updates on his birthday during the 2016-2017 season.

Hanzal's AAV (cap hit) is $3,100,000. Individual season payouts will vary, but the chart looks too messy if I list individual dollar values on each year.

Hanzal is under contract for the 2016-2017 season. His status for the next season is that of a UFA, so he needs to be signed summer of 2017.

OEL is under contract for 2018-2019. He is not under contract for 2019-2020. Per league rules, you can't extend players more than 1 year out, so there's nothing to be done other than a gentlemen's agreement. He can't sign an extension until July 2018.

But yeah, like you said ... get him extended or it'll be someone else's problem

Great job!! Nice to have this portrayed in black/white vs bouncing around in our heads!

Depth at center is looking rather...shallow. Only a matter of time before Hanzal goes down and then we are really ****ed.

Alright, updated for the end of the season ... removed all the guys who are going to be UFA this summer.

Still awaiting resolution on the expansion draft (who do we lose?), the Holland trade (if we keep him, we owe TOR our 2018 6th) and Stone trade (if they keep him, they owe us a 2018 3rd 5th).

Updated with all the activity of the last few days.

Obviously a rebuild + GM change will do this, but the entire yield of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 drafts has been rinsed down to Domi, Rieder, Martinook, Langhamer's RFA rights and Niklas Hjalmarsson. Ugh.

Two things:
- Didn't retain Holland so we don't have to give up our 2018 6th to Toronto
- the CGY conditional pick is a 2019 draft choice, not a 2018.

Yeah, I removed Jedd Soleway and him from the depth chart a couple months ago. Haven't heard either of their names even once since Chayka took over. If drafting 9 defensemen + signing KEL isn't a sign that the last GM's unsigned guy isn't wanted, I don't know what is. Clifton can skate and move the puck and that's the future of the NHL, so I wouldn't be surprised to see someone scoop him up, just like Vancouver did when Maloney didn't sign YP Laplante.

My understanding is that he (and Kevin Ekman-Larsson) is on an AHL contract, not an NHL one, so the Coyotes don't have any rights to him. He's strictly an AHL player: doesn't count toward the NHL cap, contract limit, etc. As such, I'm leaving him off here because he's not a Coyotes organizational asset, whereas Ryan MacInnis and Conor Garland are.
