its possible that a team could trade a player not on LTIR for a player on LTIR and gain some cap space. Vegas or Edmonton come to mind.

Doubt we get that high of a pick if his deal gets moved

That contract comes off the books this season. Chicago doesn't need to move it. And hoping it nets a pick is an easy way of setting yourself up for disappointment.
