I could not care any less about anything about whether a player is a willing fighter or not  Borgmans way ahead of Neilsen now who'll prob never get a shot on this team

I have to agree, he doesn't have the skating ability. He got knocked out for good and he is probably sensing it.

He's adapting pretty quickly to his new league. With every new team he will have new challenges but he is showing underrated puck moving and rushing skills. His hits are solid as a rock. A gem. Nice find.

He adapting very quickly indeed. It actually seems to suit him, I think he is confident and is just going to do it.

On a couple of occasions the other night, he looked like Tomas Kaberle, smoothly skating his way out of trouble. Something I didn't expect from the young guy.

Thick dude too. Didn't think he'd have the wheels with his size.

^ That made me jump out of my seat! There's so much to like about Borgman. A big dude that hits, has pretty decent hockey skills and we got him for free! I think his flaws can be Babcoached out for the most part. I can't wait to see how he progresses and combines with Liljegren and/or Dermott.

IMVHO, we've never had it this good in all my 45 years!!

not since 93. and even then we didn't have a potential malkin, backstrom, giroux up front and a mobile backend. although 93 was stronger on our side of the blueline. this the best offensive skill i've ever seen from a leaf team, any era.

I like the fact he has the confidence to even make a zone entry like that. Most rookie D would just get to the redline and dump it in.
Thats what I've noticed. He will make some mistakes just by being new to the league and having to adjust but he seems extremely poised. You can really see that this guy played in a great league before coming here.

Did you even read my post? Or the post I was quoting? Never said Nielson was better, just saying he shoulldnt be in the same group of names that the other dude listed.

Borgman is clearly lightyears ahead and I love Borgman's game. Chill

He’ll go for one or two rushes a game and it seems to be just at the right time. Doesn’t do it the fastest but he cuts through teams. Nice to see considering he puts people through the boards too

I still have hope for Neilson, he just needs to put in the skating work at all times to improve.

I'd love to see him progress as well but he's still far off from being able to keep up in the nhl. If you can't skate, you just can't be an NHLer anymore. He's being passed by, by other prospects right now. And quickly.

Sadly I don't think he will fix his feet. He's a bit better this year but he needed to make a jump coming into this season in his skating and I have not seen it.
That said he could still become at #6 pp specialist I just don't know if it will be with us. The good thing is he still has some time.

Yeah, I can see that, he was a few years too late with his skating. It's all about speed now

I think you're looking as Cody Franson like upside for Neilsen at best

I think we have 3 beauts in liljegren borgman dermott, who all look like likely top 4 guys to me. Add them to mo/jake/zaits and we're stacked for years imo.

I also think rosen and valiev are serviceable depth guys going forward.

Nielsen looks to me like a PP specialist.

Beyond that, Rasanen is the only one that sticks out to me as a potential impact guy.

Will get better and better as Zaitsev has.

Borgman is a gem and will become a steady NHL defenseman. Great fine by the Leafs.

Funny thing is that Rosen was supposed to be better!!! But we have too many of Rosen types in our current D and future D prospects (Reilly, Gardiner, Carrick, Dermott, Llig, Neilsen, ect...)

Rosen was supposed to maybe be readier, but i thinm borgman always looked like the one with more upside, even on signing day.

wow when he was younger Franson was a very decent player, I doubt very much Neilsen will get to that level. If he did, we hit a home run with the pick. I wouldn't bet on it.

i agree with most here in that borgman has replaced nielsen. i think nielsen has the edge in offensive creativity, but i'm skeptical if his skating will improve much more.

Yes I agree with that and that's not a bad thing at all. I just don't know if he will be doing that for us or another club.
Other than Lil and Dermott the obvious ones I have Nielsen below Holl and Valiev but I think his offensive potential might give him a leg up on those two for a chance to make the NHL.

The game has changed so much since Franson was young and he was barely a top 4 at his peak imo

If that guy develops well........... we are set, so set that it could be dynastic, and I never say that.

Borgman kind of reminds me of another 55 that used to play for the Leafs. The willingness to hit anything that comes near him, the bit of riskiness in the way he rushes the puck at times

By the looks of it, Nielsen might be out of time to do anything in our system. With Marincin, Dermott, Valiev, and Rosen, as well as 4 RHD, he might not be finding minutes easy to come by. They're not going to trade him tonight or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved in a package with say Carrick to find a better RHD than Polak or a different package to improve on Bozak or JVR...

I think you are right but maybe a trade sooner would be better than later. Not sure what a package with him would get but the ponger he doesn't make the team I would think his value drops

It has changed and players like Franson will find it tougher and tougher to find jobs. Big and slow dedenders just aren't a demand anymore. Even if they're strength is offensively. Franson was barely a top 4, a top 4 for a team who was desperate for dmen. Any team with decent D and hes your #6/eating popcorn in the stands.
