Borgman really stood out for me tonight. This guy is getting better, is efficient as heck and is proving to be a real gem. There could be actual upside to this guy but I am not positive. I am indeed willing to give props for being a good physical stable piece back there when playing with Carrick.

Looks like an NHL player.

He's a stud. Needs to clean some things up but he looks like an NHL regular even in the brief few games.

Our D-corps is gonna be good in a few years.

2nd pairing potential?

I think he may be able to do spot duty if someone is injured. He is way better than I thought he would be for so few games in. He didn't look so good with Rosen but Rosen just isn't ready for the NHL period.

Honestly, he looks like our 2nd best d-man a lot of nights. He's a smart player. And he is a two-way player as well. Hope this continues.

Dermott/Liljegren
Gardiner/Zaitsev
Rielly/?

Can Borgman work with Rielly? Not sure.

I am confused. Did you just put Rielly on the 3rd pairing behind dermott and liljegren?
It's for projecting like two seasons away with the idea that all 3 pairs can be our top pair on any night. Just the other 2 pairs have shown chemistry, so we're looking for Reilly's partner.

I’m surprised how much he wants to jump into the play and how comfortable he is with the puck. He might have a bit of offence in him. He’s pretty good at getting his shot through and when he slaps it, it’s got some power.

I’d like to see him work on his positioning in the neutral zone a bit. I’d also like to see him use his body to rough guys up a bit more, especially early in games.

He definitely has the potential to grow into a "top 4" Dman.

Overall very impressed with the young guy! :D

As of right now:

Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Rielly
Borgman-Liljegren

Of course lots can/will change by then

With that said, I'm really liking Borgman's play. He can definitely be a legit top 4 guy in this league. Has all the tools. LH Parayko-lite

Gonna be exciting to see where this guy is in a year or two. There's definitely some nice upside, especially when paired correctly. He and Liljegren would seem like a good fit down the road.

This could be our Niklas Kronwall!!

Good chance he'll be better than Zaitsev... keep in mind, Zaitsev is 4 years older right now...

Solid defensively, strong as an ox, has poise with the puck. Yeah this kids a player. Reminds me a little bit of Larsson in Edmonton when he's playing defense.

So far so good w the Borg. I love his resistence is futile attitude w crunching hits but I'll reserve judgement until the 20 to 30 game mark.

Just keep playing him, do not take him out for Rosen, who obviously isn't as ready at this point. Get him to feel comfortable and accustomed to all NHL situations. He's got the tools to be a very good top 4 defenceman. Poised, good with the puck, skates well, has a great shot. Along with Dermott we've got great young defencemen for the next couple of years.

I notice a few times cyBorg gets the puck but seems lost with it in our own end. Most times it ends up on the opposition stick after that but I hope that is something Babs can help with. He is breaking up the cycle and retrieving pucks so there is a lot of upside to his game.

His foot speed is also slow IMHO. He may top out as a #6/7 Dman

I'm a bit surprised that people are this happy about his last game. Thought it was one of his worse ones. He played some 13 minutes in tissue-soft minutes and had a bunch of plays that someone like Gardiner would get absolutely roasted for, one of which led to a goal against, another to a 2-on-1, a third to a high scoring chance. That's not great for such limited minutes.

I think Borgman and Rosen can be NHL Dmen. Even if they just "steady" guys, what great signings. And along with Zaitsev, getting three of of your top seven as cheap UFA signings, that's how you grow a team in a cap league.

I like the rotation of Borgman, Rosen and Carrick. Keep all involved. For sure there is going to injuries, and if it happens one of the top four, at least their replacement has played regularly. Look what happened in the playoffs last year when Polak got hurt. Marincin was thrown in after playing one game in six week. He wasn't ready. (yeah I know he isn't that good either).
