Was really bummed by how Jesenice lost the game 4. Great atmosphere at the arena, equalizing the game and that dagger of the late goal. Would have loved to see them in the finals.

Olimpija didn't do too well in the first game either..

Coming back from being 3-1 down in the series. Always sad to see home team lose in a full barn but well done Olimpija and it's really nice to see Slovenian hockey achieve something at a pro hockey level.

Thank you, nice compliment.

It's good to see fuller arenas again but realistically we all know that the only way for our hockey to have similar future as our best present generation, is to get back in EBEL. And more important, to have financially stable club there for longer period of time.

Winning Alps League is a nice little step.

right when this league starts to improve, Austrian federation decides to throw it few steps back. What is the use of matches between Olimpija and Linz II? More goals than spectators.

I'm so confused. First of all, KAC II is better than Vienna II, and KAC II isn't very good of course. Some people disagree, but I'm pretty sure and so are some other people I know.

Who is supposed to play for this Steel Wings Linz team? Let's be generous

Paul Mocher

Gerd Kragl - Niklas Mayrhauser
Ivan Korecky - Jonas Kail
Patrick Gaffal - Marwin Liesch
Leon Kleiss

Paul Koudelka - Julian Pusnik - Stefan Gaffal
Laurens Ober - Stefan Freunschlag - David Franz
Paul Schmid - Mark Marton - Mate Gaspar
Adrian Rosenberger - Mario Pichler - Kilian Fruhwirt
Marcel Mayrhofer

Ok, so that lineup is trash, and it's assuming things like they will be able to bring back Patrick Gaffal and David Franz, they will be able to bring back Paul Schmid, they will be able to afford Stefan Gaffal, etc. They could also go for some high-end Austrians in the AlpsHL, but that seems unlikely too. Could they get Christian Haidinger? Maybe. I can't see anyone else they might get, and he would be a welcome addition but not nearly helpful enough to make them good. They already missed out on Bernhard Fechtig.

@kabidjan18 I agree, they basically added AlpsHL 4th liners to a team that finished 4th out of 5 teams in Austrian amateur hockey league. Also they finished 9th out of 15 teams in EBYSL so it's not like their U20 team is not challenged enough in their league. Linz is probably threatened by import reduction in EBEL so now they trying to generate some talent over night. AlpsHL is already too big, there is already 4 teams not able to compete with others. This makes is hard to make the league interesting.

Basically how I see it, it's EBEL showing AlpsHL who's the boss since there was some talk about AlpsHL forming an independent league. You want a better league? Join EBEL. But, what will happen if Italian teams leave and Olimpija leaves to EBEL? Austrian teams will end up playing with farm teams (and poor Jesenice). No player development there or appeal for local fans.

Haha well, Salzburg can. But you're basically right.

I don't know what Linz is going to do, they just don't really have any talent. They could start recruiting guys from other teams, and that might work for a bit, but you're not going to get top guys that way, and this is Austrian hockey. There simply aren't many "top guys". Good on them for getting Pusnik, but it's not clear who else they're going to get that's going to make them good.

Looks like there will be 16 teams instead of 18 as two Austrian clubs (Zell am See and Vienna Capitals II) have decided to drop out. One Italian club (HC Meran) wanted to join, but the Italian federation didn't allow it because they missed the deadline for application. Olimpija Ljubljana was still talking about joining the ICE Hockey League very recently, but they never applied and thus it seems they will continue in the Alps Hockey League.

The league is preparing three different schedules in case there are regional Covid lockdowns or closed boarders. One schedule is international/regular, one is semi-regional and one only has regional matches.

Update:

A report today says the new Alps HL season will start October 8th.
