I don't mean Crosby/Malkin are the 2 most talented players to ever play together. Gretzky/Messier above the combo of Crosby/Malkin

But Gretz/Messier didn't play together as long. Also - it was very much Gretzky >>>> Messier. Crosby/Malkin have been together all their prime/career going on 14 seasons now - and they're 1A/1B. In terms of a 1-2 punch of 1a/1b - they are among the best duos of all time.

Messier won 2 cups without Gretzky, and won the Conn Smyth over him in their first cup. Also has 2 Harts and 2 Pearsons.

Yes, Gretzky was better, but we don't beat the Islanders without Messier. Might not even beat Calgary without him. He was a HUGE part of that duo.
Also 4 cups together over 9 years is pretty significant.
