First period starts somewhat roughly for the Scouts, as Craig McTavish trips Bernie Federko in the neutral zone. 15 seconds later, Barclay Plager goes a little too rough against the Sultan of the Slot, and is sent in the sin bin for crosschecking. 5-on-3 after only two minutes in the game... And two minutes later, the scoreboard marks 2-0 for Seattle : first, Bryan Trottier screens perfectly Sawchuck as Bill Gadsby shoots from the blue line, and second, Federko feeds Jagr along the boards, who skates rather freely to the slot and unleashes a wrister of his own past Sawchuck. The Scouts, now clearly in offensive mode, controls somewhat the game, but just cannot do a lot against Metros' defensive corps, and a particularly on-fire Rod Langway -- so much that Chuck Gardiner only faced 5 shots in the first period.

Amazingly, there are already six minutes gone in the second period when the first bout between Tiger Williams and John Ferguson erupts. Both fighters sent lots of punches, with no one really gaining the advantage. Somewhat inspired by Williams, Seattle returns in attacking mode, but to no avail : while Sawchuck gave two goals on the PK, he's absolutely unbeatable at even strenght. Still 2-0 after two, Seattle leading 23-9 for shots.

40 seconds gone in the third period before KC brings both teams a little closer, thanks to Dickie Moore with a pass along the boards from Chris Chelios. Let's just say Pete Green wished that he had a more mobile player than Craig Ludwig on the play. However, that's the closer Kansas would get to Seattle, as Seattle's defense (helped a lot by the Meagher-Sutter-Dornhoefer defensive play) completely disrupts any offensive display by Kansas. That's Rick Meagher himself that settle the result with a EN'er late in the third period.
Seattle wins 3-1, Seattle leads 1-0
