Anyone know what city has the most current NHL players?

I think it's Edmonton or Montreal...

As a kid i skated with Joe Dzedic and later with Troy and Jake Riddle around local parks in NE minneapolis. And there are alot of former and current gophers who came out of the metro area.
I remember him(Dzeidic) he was supposedly a real top notch athlete who even competed in those lumberjack competitions in Minnesota.Never panned out as an nhl player though.Blast from the past hearing his name.

Do you rememer Chris Gotziaman? I think he was a top prospect from Minny around 1990 or so also but never panned out too, what ever happened to him?

Marleau is not from Manitoba. Theo Fleury is. He grew up in Russell, his dad and brothers still live in Russell. I believe he spent part of his youth in Oxbow, Sask - so it's debatable.

Team Manitoba will be much more impressive in 5-10 years than it is now, some very good prospects coming from here. Eric Fehr, Travis Zajac, Cam Barker, Alex Steen, Jon Toews - all very high draft picks. Rej Beauchemin and Nigel Dawes are decent.

Right now I'd have to go with,

Tyler Arnason - Arron Asham - Mike Leclerc
JP Vigier - Marty Murray - Shane Hnidy

Bryce Salvador - Garnet Exelby
Cam Barker - ???

Ed Belfour

Manitoba is stacked at coaches. Andy Murray, Barry Trotz, Ron Low.... I think there might be more but I'm not sure.

No NHL forwards

Chris Chelios-Joe Corvo

Craig Anderson

And that's it.
Coached by Olczyk and Granato, though, and we have Al Montoya in the wings

Don't forget other decent prospects like Joe Barnes (CAR), Dayln Flatt (NYR), Dustin Boyd (CGY), Andrew Murray (CLB), Ian White (TOR), Ryan White ('06), Derek Meech (DET), Darren Helm (DET), Owen Fussey (WSH), Dustin Penner (ANA), Brett Skinner (VAN), Barry Brust (LA), Ryan Cladwell (NYI), Eric Hunter (CHI), Duncan Keith (CHI), Troy Bodie (EDM), Aaron (ANA) and Ashton (BOS) Rome, Brett Krahn (CGY), Drew Bagnall (DAL), Gord Baldwin (CGY), Steven Later (TOR) and Brodie Dupont (NYR).

There are also the little bros of Jonathan and Travis - David Toews (Shattuck - Prep) and Darcy Zajac (Salmon Arm - BCHL). They don't figure to be as good as their older bros but I haven't seen them play yet so :dunno: .

I don't know much of Colin Wilson (USNTDP Juniors) except that he has dual-citizenship and played Midget AAA hockey in Winnipeg last year. He dominated the league and led it in scoring (36 GP - 51 G - 50 A - 101 PTS). Profile: http://eteamz.active.com/midgetwarriors/roster/index.cfm?season=321464&sport=12&id=4315509

Brady Murray (LA), Adam Courchene (MIN), Tyler Mosienko (?), Tyler Metcalf (?), Alexander Steen (TOR) and Jacob Mickflickier (http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid[]=67729) were the biggest names around the kiddy leagues when I was young.

Of course, many of these players won't make it but I agree this is the best crop of young players Manitoba has had in ages.

FYI, Mike Richards (PHI) grew up in Kenora, ON (on Manitoba border) and he was a Jets fan growing up. Plays like a western boy too...

There is Duvie Westcott for that last d-position. Some enforcers - Jody Shelly and Colton Orr. Kirby Law, Rick Berry and Lee Goren would make the Provincial team.

We'd have to get Justin Kurtz back from Germany and Theo Fleury back from Ireland for depth. Oh, and then there's Jordin Tootoo who was born in Churchill and played a lot in Manitoba but like Fleury, Steen and Murray lived elsewhere as a young one.

Is Exelby really Manitoban? News to me.

It's Toronto. I think about half the Canadian players in the NHL come from southern Ontario.

I, for one, have a hard time understanding exactly what it means to be "in Toronto." (I've been in the city itself 10 times or so.)

I think part of the debate has to do with the fact that Toronto's metro area is so widespread that the idea of being "in Toronto" depends drastically from person to person...

An example of what I'm talking about:

I am from Syracuse, in the part of New York state that actually gets real snow. (A shout out to Buffalo, Fulton, Rochester, Oswego, etc, as well as those mountain communitites where virtually no one lives)

I consider Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and even Staten Island part of the New York City metro area. To me, if you are from one of the 5 bouroughs, you're from New York city.

May people in Manhattan, however, consider anyone outside of Manhattan to be from the suburbs; to them, Brooklynites are from Brooklyn, to me, they are considered from New York city.

We later join forces and laugh at the people who claim to be from NYC and turn out to be from "Lawn Guyland." :D

Jody Shelley--Sidney Crosby--Glen Murray
Bobby Smith--Jon Sim--George Davis

Al MacInnis--Colin White

Olaf Kolzig (OK...he only played his minor hockey here...)

Leave us alone. Bobby Smith can still skate...I'm almost positive.

Joey MacDonald can play net
And don't forget the amazing talents of guys like Eric Boulton, Craig MacDonald, Derrick Walser, Doug Doull and David Ling. Oh and Bubbles and Ricky. We got a freaking all star team there.

Besides, we invented the game. If it wasn't for us, this conversation wouldn't even be happening.

It has become pretty blurry. I limit it to the megacity, but it's basically non-stop city from the lakseshore to Richmond Hill, and east-west from Oakville to Ajax

Rick Nash was born in Brampton, and Jeff O'neill was born in Richmond Hill, but they might as well be from Toronto

I guess just count the whole golden horseshoe area if you want Toronto's "sphere of influence" so to speak

My version had more AHL-calibre defensemen ... although I forgot about Olczyk.

That's better than I would have guessed, though beginning to get a little old. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) know who the next generation of Massachusetts stars could be???
